Fail.

Anyways, the idea of showing off if you have donated does not always go over too well. I have played a number of private servers for both WoW and Knight Online. The vast majority of those games give rewards to those who donate, and many of those who donate are... err... Let's just say not everyone appreciates their contribution (the players that do not donate). However, I must mention that for donating on WoW and Knight Online private servers, you actually get items in game that give you an advantage over non donators (which you would not get in tron).

Just something to think about.

Another thing:

The bike and tail are relatively small details, and when you are rocketing down the grid going 70 (idk what the tron measurement of speed is supposed to be), you are not going to be very likely to notice the wall detail or the other cycles whizzing by.

Additional questions I have on the subject:

Should another "reward" for donating be thought of that isn't so "show offy"?

Is there any way to donate to the devs currently?

It goes to me and then I use it to pay for our domain name and hosting.

Yeah, m/s in theory. A default grid line is 1 so-called meter. It's just a bit crammed in your cycle, so I envision things being larger. Maybe it's a millimile? But whatever, it would be a nice addition, even if you don't notice 100% of the time.

I'm still not sure how this should be regulated. Indeed you need a fork to work around it, but a mini-fork like this is trivial to make and keep updated. If a community forms around one ("can't see my skin? get this client noob" could work on a lot of kids) it could actually get some traction. Could be completely wrong, it's just this feeling I have. Maybe also because I kind of expect a skin to be available to everyone.

What else could you make unique to donators, without locking people out from something they 'ought' to have? Should still be interesting, just not as overboard as exclusive skinning ability.

Another thing is if you should really want fanciness on the grid. Regulation isn't worth that much if they pass things you personally dislike, but you don't want to disable everything or micromanage either. I'd be completely happy with sinewav's tailmark, but not so much with varying cycle models that make it harder to predict where their actual impact point is, or confusing transparency. Maybe it should exist in limited form? Which in turn seems to make more sense to donate for.

I hope it doesn't force us(me) to view cycles differently as I'm using a different model (made by pike, if anyone's interested) for better precision/accuracy and I wouldn't like switching back.

As for players' walls I don't mind. Or rather, I'd support it. (Especially sine's idea. Would bring team competition to the next level, in terms of atmosphere and visual awesomeness.)

I really like this. Just a fun little experiment that could accrue some extra funds for the dev team :) I'd pay the money to get the custom crap.

I wouldn't do it because I don't like paying extra for something unnecessary. If it ain't broke, why pimp it out :D Unless it's something REALLY cool. I might pay 5 bucks a month for the clan tag on the bike that's a neat idea.

And my verdict is: Yes. But if I'm going through a winding tunnel and then some asshole with flashing lines and a bouncing bike drives by I'm going to have to change my mind. :|

Seems like a bit much (but what do I know). A deal I'd personally like would be, hm... $5 to activate it and submit a first wall texture, and then $3 each time you want to change it. (Undecisive people might even be able to support Tank and his family. Then he'd be able to have his work be.. a little more of a hobby* **.)

:?: I'm really wondering about what type of stuff is being worked on behind the scenes... Was this an idea that you're wondering is worth your time to pursue and are looking to justify it with user contributions? Has this already been developed in some capacity and you're just wondering what to do about the costs of time to create it or the cost of adding a skin repository to link to Arma? Is it just out of curiosity to see about if/how much people would pay?

:) I don't mind contributing to developers' costs and will gladly do so soon. How much do the sites and stuff cost?

:!: It sounds like this is a fantastic and "marketable" idea! It's exciting, too. As far as your research goes, YES, I think you should know that this game is worth paying something for (not just for your own skin). A per year skin charge plus change fee would work well. If that's all you want to know, stop reading after the filtering stuff below.

 The filtering would definitely have to be explicitly stated (ie. must be a clanmember to buy a clan skin, no explicit nudity or profanity, no reference to cocaine or Durka's mom, etc.), otherwise there should be no filter at all... where the **** are the forum rules?

 If personalization could be included in the game without the need to pay for the additional resource directory to store personalized skins, then I don't think anyone should have to pay for it. If there are costs associated with this added feature, then yes, I would gladly pay to have my own skin. Like I said before I don't mind paying for things, but if I'm basically paying for access to something that has been developed "openly" and could be added to the game without additional cost, then I think it makes sense to respectfully decline.

:bear: On the other hand, Word offering a design service for personalized cycle models (maybe ones that could be integrated into this skins feature!) makes sense and I fully support it!

My vote = no.

Only because I can make my own models and textures.
