Re: Illegal Exit 01
I was thinking about doing this on the 16th or 23rd, but the "NA vs EU Fort" event hasn't been determined (tie votes at the time of writing). I can have it one of those days, or maybe just on May 30th.
It only takes a few days to promote (since the number of potential players is so small) - there is plenty of time. I'll hit up that "corewar" guy about this too. Maybe I can get him to join us, and advertise a date on his server.
Any of those dates work for you Concord? I know you're off for the summer, so I guess we should have it soon. Anyone else have a preference? Word? Titanboob? free kill?

Re: Illegal Exit 01
I just built my first trunk server. I would be happy to host a server located in the UK for you if needed. That way, you would know that trunk clients would be forced to the proper cam view.

I wouldn't mind on whichever sunday (16/23) the US vs NA game isn't played on.
But I hope you fixed the "camping issue". It was a blast playing vs sine/concord/tronpaul since nobody really camped, but vs the microsoft office team, it was a big campfest really.
looking forward to it

any Sunday should work for me.
Re: Illegal Exit 01
I did two things: I eliminated survive points (and lowered LIMIT_SCORE), and made the trails finite. Currently, the trails are slightly longer than the perimeter of the grid. This gives you enough length to wrap someone up but not enough to camp - or no reason to camp, actually. (As a result, the bots are harder to kill too because they can "trace" their way out of a situation.) I've tested these settings and it doesn't seem to affect the game negatively, and gives players more opportunities to attack each other, which is what we want.Titanoboa wrote:But I hope you fixed the "camping issue".
After I announce the date, we can refine the game-play in the days preceding the event if necessary. LIMIT_SCORE might be too low. That reminds me to ask: How long should a match last? The tournament moved along very well last time, so maybe I don't need to make the score higher.
Re: Illegal Exit 01
We could have all the teams in the same server. The winner of each round stays on. Real rounds are counted on paper as switching out teams might get messy. The first two teams to, say, five losses are eliminated. This type of thing continues until only two teams are left. Those teams play best two out of three matches. It feels like Tron, but it might be dysfunctional. Thoughts?
Re: Illegal Exit 01
Rounds can be very short. We could easily spend more time switching than playing. Plus, spectating in TRON Exp doesn't offer much excitement because of the difference in perspective. Your idea is pretty neat, though I don't know if it's right for this event. Maybe we can explore this idea a little more. It would work great if Arma could to all the switching for us (remember the proposed MCP idea?).Concord wrote:dysfunctional.
Also, thinking ahead to IE-03, I might try a map where all 4 teams fight simultaneously. We can even tailor limit_score and limit_time to make the whole thing fit into a comfortable time frame. You know, a quick, easy tournament where no one is left waiting and doesn't take hours to finish.
I also have an idea for 8 individual players too, maybe for IE-04.

Re: Illegal Exit 01
If you would like, sine, I still owe you a free server from winning the contest. I could setup your account with a .3 binary, and you could run a second server for the tourney.

Ok, sure. Whenever you get the time, go ahead and do that.compguygene wrote:I still owe you a free server from winning the contest.
Re: Illegal Exit 01
for my clarification, does the Tron Experience require a 0.3 server?
Re: Illegal Exit 01
Not at all, but I have 0.3 servers so players can /lock. Also: the settings if you want them for local play.Concord wrote:for my clarification, does the Tron Experience require a 0.3 server?

Re: Illegal Exit 01
Shoot, you could run 'TRON Experience' in a 0.2.5 server, if you wanted.
Re: Illegal Exit 01
I can't do the 30th, but any other date I'm in.
