As to the location of the server, I just picked up a Xen based server that is hosted in Kansas. It has better connections to Europe and the Eastern United states than ones that I have seen in Texas. As soon as I can get it fully setup, I will put up a server there for you all to test.

Just out of curiosity, what was the point of splitting and then immediately locking a topic? ("What are america and europe" is locked)

People! Let's set a deadline for nominating. How about midnight (GMT) on Sunday 25th (April).
This means: If you're missing any players on the list, add them now.
One week should be enough for everyone to check the list :)

After that, we'll make two new topics. "North American team vote" and "European team vote", with a list of the nominees. Only the people on this list may submit a vote.
The vote will consist of max. 8 players. When everyone has had a chance to vote, we'll see who the starting 8, plus 2 subs are.
Sound good?

I'm not sure if this is what you're saying, but I think it would be best if each person got 6 votes. If the vote number per person is low, there will probably be a lot of ties.

Also, to make sure no one breaks the rules, instead of going by the typical poll based system, each nominee will make a post with their own picks.

I like how we're just figuring this out as we go along

How about we hammer out the details of how this will work soon?

A few questions:
How many votes per person?
Who can vote?
How do you vote - anonymously or openly? On the wiki or somewhere else?
Do you have to use X amount of votes for Americans and X amount of votes for Europeans?
What happens if a nominated person doesn't vote - disqualify or doesn't matter?
How are team leaders decided - most votes, volunteer, eh?
Who's going to commentate?
Where do Canadians fit into all of this?

How are team leaders decided - most votes, volunteer, eh? volunteering followed seperate voting
Who's going to commentate? volunteering non-elected players
Where do Canadians fit into all of this? US
What about voting on the best person per position? (dont flame me! :| )

I like the idea. Basically each nominee chooses 6 players that he/she thinks makes the best team. And it would be interesting to see what that is from each nominee. But maybe it would be good to have 8 players that are voted in so that there can be 2 subs, in which case perhaps each nominee should choose 8 players?

@Appa: Canada could be included it will depend on how we define this competition.

Also any opinions on trying to form 2 teams per continent???

I guess that was the whole NA vs EU debate... Still, Canada is not the US. Don't give the US that much credit ;)

Anyway, I think having 2 subs is best as well.

Any other details we can get hammered out that anyone can think of?

I don't think that's a bad idea, but I think the best thing to do is actually pick the players for each team first.

I just put up an America Vs. Europe Fortress Test Server. It is currently set to ladle settings, 6 players max. It is hosted on a new Xen server I have in Kansas City, Kansas. It is a good central location in the United States. However, the provider in question has decent network connections to Europe, so it won't absolutely suck for Europeans. Please test it out!
Also, I personally think that this would be better done in an 8v8. I know that we do a 6v6 in the ladle for a lot of good reasons. But, the 2 added people, IMHO, would bring a lot more fun and potential challenge to the match. The people that end up playing would have played in plenty of 8v8's in the past, so it won't be new to them.

Choosing 8 players when you only have 6 active ones (and 2 subs) is a bad idea. Choosing 8 would make your vote for a sub equal to your vote for a starter, which would skew the results. Therefore, I think choosing 6 is still the best idea and the 7th and 8th most voted people would be subs. If there are ties between 6th and 7th or 8th and 9th, then a second round of voting on those players only will occur. Also, considering the number of players signed up on the US side, making two teams is impractical.

@appa I think the following questions already have a majority agreement on their answer or are basically common sense.
Who can vote? nominees from their own region
How do you vote - anonymously or openly? On the wiki or somewhere else? openly to prevent any cheating. It would probably be better on the forum to prevent wiki clutter and to make sure no one who isn't on the team votes.
Do you have to use X amount of votes for Americans and X amount of votes for Europeans? not needed because you can only vote for your region
What happens if a nominated person doesn't vote - disqualify or doesn't matter? I don't think anyone really wants to disqualify anyone, of course, there may have been players who were nominated but don't know that they were. Some of these people may not actually want to play and not voting may indicate that. We'll have to talk to them.
How are team leaders decided - most votes, volunteer, eh? It's almost always been that way: Volunteer, and if there is more than one, it is then most votes.

So the only thing up to debate is:
How many votes per person?
As I explained above, I think it would be best if it was 6.

I think 8v8 matches is best, active players is not rly an issue because I see more then enough on each team. Although this may be a good time to cancel out inactive players, I know Goodygumdrops is an ideal candidate but I also havent see him play tron in over 3 months :o

As for voting, I say each person gets 7 votes, although they are not aloud voting for themselves.

I like the 8v8 idea for this competition!
We already have a 6v6 competition for Ladle and 8v8 will let more players represent!
