LMS Tourney?
I'm not really myself interested in playing AA at all anymore, but I'm curious how many people would actually partake in an LMS/Team LMS tourney?
I've said this elsewhere on forums; this forum is becoming very centred around fortress, particularly ladle, and as far as the wider AA community (those who have accounts but never talk maybe?) don't play fort, nor do they probably know/care what it is. People always say they want the community to grow etc. So how about we actually embrace the rest of the community as well? Just a suggestion.
Anyway /end rant. Back to the tourney thing; Hayes made a good point about there being many variations of settings etc. If we can come to some kind of agreement as to "nice" LMS settings and get enough servers up to support it, who would be up for playing in it?

Re: LMS Tourney?
check out our 'electric fishing' and 'crossyed & painless' server
(we are going to organize a team lms tourney for c&p soon)
there's also sinewavs' TRON arcade and 'Adventures Of Tron - Challenge II'.
and another good server is "111"...but i have no clue who hosts it - and not sure if massive camping could be an issue with these settings.
we (pru) hosted a deathmatch tourney once, our servers had yellow submarine settings. but that made it easy to run and camp and the whole thing lasted far too long.

Also the same goes for CTF. Since Ww has gone there hasn't really been an organised CTF tourney; which is a shame, because since I can remember they have always been full.
Also please keep the "ctf is for noobs" comments to yourself. if you have nothing of importance to offer this discussion don't involve yourself with it. Thanks :]
@Word; I don't play LMS really, need people who play, like Phytotron, Sine etc. to comment on settings but I think something with moderate to low rubber would be better, no higher than 10 for example.

In EF, cycle_rubber is set to 4, it's 3 in C&P.dubStep wrote:@Word; I don't play LMS really, need people who play, like Phytotron, Sine etc. to comment on settings but I think something with moderate to low rubber would be better, no higher than 10 for example.
Re: LMS Tourney?
I'd really like a LMS tournament. Maybe something like Nexus 9 settings to keep it fast paced and exciting, C & P is great too

Yeah I just played a couple of games in Crosseyed and Painless, definitely would play in a tournament with those settings. Nexus would be cool too.

There was one, like, two weeks ago. I guess you missed it. I think some guy from Untitiled Clan runs it.dubStep wrote:Since Ww has gone there hasn't really been an organised CTF tourney; which is a shame, because since I can remember they have always been full.
I don't have any suggestions for LMS. If Fortress is popular with the people visiting this forum, then that's cool. If they like Fort physics so much, they can have an LMS with Fort physics. That wouldn't be so bad either.
Cross&Pain server is popular now, just use those. And too much debate on physics will stop any LMS tourney dead in the water. It's best for someone to just make the decision and set one up.
EDIT1: Also, Shrunkland and BiH have some nice settings. Just sayin'
EDIT2: Oh, and the default settings in Arma are really good too. Everyone has them. If I were to run an LMS tourney, I'd use default settings. But that's me, you know how I am.
Re: LMS Tourney?
High rubber
ID, SP, Ww, CT, DS are all clans that have high rubber players.
When Fort became popular the fort people motivated the HR clans to play in ladles to make the community grow. How about the Fort people play a tourney of High Rubber.
If it was done team wise 3v3 would be a nice number.
Individual wise i say 6-8 in a server and top two advance.
Just a suggestion.

Re: LMS Tourney?

Pru's servers are too extreme, deviate too much from "classic/standard/normal/whatever"—doesn't the 'Crosseyed and Painless' have some dumbass map and really short tails?
High rubber is an obscenity. A foul abuse, certainly extreme and deviant. Likewise for the small cycle_delay that invariably accompanies it.
Tron Experience and Original Arcade are cool, but again deviate from the norm, especially the latter.
The default settings are OK, except—I say again—base speed needs to be put back to 10 (to be adjusted with speed_factor).
Shrunkland and Bebop in Harlem could be reconfigured* to be more standard, with respect to the unique rubber settings, but I don't want them involved.
I am not interested in Armagetron tournaments, as individuals or as teams, and I am especially uninterested in the inevitable resultant boasting and declarations of superiority.
* Side bar: As I mentioned in the BiH announcement thread, this is something I intend to do on a temporary basis now and then, anyway. That goes for both servers.

I can understand your desire to not get involved in this, Phytotron. Although I am putting the bulk of my creativity toward unique servers in TR2NOrigins, I would like to take a stab at this. Can you share some general recommendations on how to reconfigure Beebop in Harlem orPhytotron wrote:To all of it.

Shrunkland? Is it just a matter of adjusting the unique rubber settings to something a little less forgiving? What are your thought? I have been makeing new LMS servers, and a unique Sumo server that do have unique rubber settings instead of excessive rubber. Seeing your server settings, and with some advice from Nano, it is starting to make sense.

default settings, 3v3 or 5v5 on a sufficiently small grid gets my vote

Classic as they may be, I don't like the idea of either Shrunkland or Bebop in Harlem, whatever variations, being used for tournament stuff, especially Shrunkland. It just doesn't sit right with me, especially if clans are involved.
Just make a basic, conventional, generic server. That, or find people willing to include their various existing servers in some kind of circuit dealio.
By the way, why are you all assuming teams?

Re: LMS Tourney?
No problIem, Phytotron. I will make a generic one. I think that the reason that everyone is thinking teams is rather simple. People generally enjoy tournaments that involve a team dynamic more than just individual play. I can understand your desire to stay away from anything associated with clans/teams, and I will respect that.

Re: LMS Tourney?
I don't mind teamplay, and as I've mentioned I'm going to rotate BiH as teams-of-two play like the original did. But the majority of deathmatch/free-for-all/"LMS" servers have been individual multiplayer (er, or however one would put it) rather than team, and I would think that would be more appropriate. I was just noting that everyone automatically leaped to the assumption that any tournament would be teamplay. Conditioning from that fortress stuff, I suppose.
By the way, are you going to get distracted with this now? Weren't you going to be migrating servers to the new hosts today or hereabouts?

Re: LMS Tourney?
^_^ team related things are overrated and like you said every tourney is centred around that. Would be nice to have something different for a change..
