Did you know the Catholic Church declared knowing about evolution?

There is no head of the "Christian Church", possibly you meant Catholic?
The Catholic Church has suggested evolution occurred with the assistance of God, and has a great deal of good evidence to back this up, which is why I believe it.

Catholics are Christian too aren't they? Or is their shit more holy than everyone elses? :)

It's the distinction between Catholicism and Protestantism, dubStep.

That said, I've long contended that there are as many types and denominations of Christianity as there are people who self-identify as Christians.

Phytotron wrote:Alright, I feel a bit more comfortable with that. The reason I made the provisional assumptions I did—referring to the Christian Patriot movement and Republic mag—is because that is (those are) the ideological movement(s) almost always associated with the phrase "Patriot movement." Just ask the SPLC. These organisations are notoriously antisemetic, racist, homophobic, misogynistic, and violent.

With respect to the 9/11 Truth Movement, it's not the least bit new or unfamiliar to me. My wife and I are "card-carrying members" of the Skeptics Society. I don't have any interest debating it any longer, either (much in the same way I've tired arguing with creationists)—at least until I get over the intellectual fatigue and my fuel stores of patience recharge. So, like you, I'll just refer to the pieces Skeptic mag did, including the 9/11 cover issue (12/4/06), as well as the special report done by Popular Mechanics. (And Akira, if you're seeing this, you can check those out too.)

So, er, yeah, when are we moving to PA?
I have seen the Poplular Mechanics article, and the pieces Skeptic mag did. At least we can agree to disagree. And, I think we completely agree on the Christian Patriot Movement, thanks for the link. Them and others are pretty much brain-dead, as we both know. As to you being a card-carrying skeptic, I can respect that. At least you are putting concious thought into a personal philosophy and intellectual choices.
As to the move to PA, this Sunday from 7pm 'till I drop from tiredness, I will be able to do nothing but focus on confguring things for the move. If things go even reasonably well, you will be moved by Tuesday night. As I move your servers, and add Armagoshdarn to it, I will be getting things setup so that you can tinker with the language files for each server without me having to make separate binaries. I prefer to limit the number of actual server binaries so that updates are more easily accomplished. You will be running .2.8.3.1. My ladle servers and a few others are running .2.8.3.1 and I have definitely seen improvements.

Ah, that's what I was wondering about. The thing that was throwing me off while browsing the folders (in Mac-speak; or, as I think you geeks like to refer to them, directories :P) was a lot folders and files apparently being shared, some redundant, and some seemingly completely out of place and not belonging to either server (like, a "games" folder, and logs for other servers :? :?: ). This messes with my sense of logical organisation!

So, not only concerning something superficial like english_base.txt, I wanted to be sure that there weren't more important things conflicting or overlapping or anything else, things like logs and whatnot.

The bible was written largely by first hand witnesses to many of the stories explained, especially the ones of Jesus. Obviously it takes a great deal of faith to believe that these documents are real, and of course there is a great deal of skepticism behind that, so I shalln't argue it. But a first hand account is a first hand account, regardless of if it pertains to religious history or something else.

Nothing proves they're first-hand witnesses. On the contrary, it is very easy to conceive most of them didn't know how to write.

There is only one thing that I will say about first-hand accounts, etc. Christianity in its purest forms is about faith. One either accepts these thing on what is referred to as "substantiated faith" or faith that is strengthened by evidence, or not. You cannot "prove" Christianity to anybody, you can only share your belief and the evidence that backs said belief.

comp you are my new hero el oh el. i agree completely with what he says though. either way it is impossible to prove how everything began, although I for one am convinced by the feelings and emotions felt in church and other times at random places. some things are inexplicable through science in my opinion. gene you are obviously really knowledgeable about this(and many other things :P) so if we ever get the chance id like to discuss a few questions i have. i'm a full believer yet some questions i haven't found the answers to. i'm constantly looking but i feel like talking with you about some things may help me find them :D
