Money Tournament

Post by ItzAcid »

Has anyone considered hosting a tournament that involves winning a cash prize? I think this would be a pretty cool idea if people would actualy participate and spare something such as $5 per entry. Just an idea x]

Yep, talked about here. It's just up to someone to organize it. There are plenty of ways to do it, and plenty of resources to handle financial transactions online. No one has tried to do it yet. Maybe it's up to you?

honestly i've been considering it. I'd like to partially steal an idea from a friend of mind and host various tournaments for money but include one yearly tournament that is massive. It would be called the Hexatron and would include a combination of HR, Sumo, DF, CTF, Fort, and CTFS. I'm undecided if it would be a team or single competition, but nevertheless, it would determine the best rounded team in all of tron. If thats too much other simple tournaments would be great :).

Just to get an idea, please post here if you would be willing to pay money in order to enter a tournament with a cash prize.

I'm willing to and I do already donate for the maintenance costs of some armagetron advanced servers from time to time. Aside from that I play at the lottery. I guess that's a "No" from me :)

A money ladle.. Hmmmmm lol

We would probably on get a max of 5 teams to sign up though. Also, how would you handle money conversions?

I had/have a very similar idea with a tournament management system, that I had plans for a while back. I wanted to introduce the Sumo Knock-out and Team Sumo Knock-out tournaments under the kings of the grid brand, and then eventually expand that into official and unofficial tournaments and leagues, all working off the brand and organization system. Things from self-organized tournaments/leagues to private ones. To provide everybody a much more easier management system than what we have now, which is basically only wiki's.

Eventually during that whole thing, tournaments or (most specifically in mind was) leagues that had some sort of prize/reward. Also leagues and tournaments that involved a deposit to enter to increase the competitiveness to a whole new level. In which I believe would slowly change the standard of Armagetron "professional" and competitive play. Which would really take a massive leap forward if we did have such a 3rd(or 1st) party league operating.

I wasn't just thinking Sumo and Fortress, but a lot of stuff like CTF, Deathmatch, and anything else that was popular enough, and not just stop there, with the system, people could start their own tournaments and do everything that wanted to themselves with relative ease.

TBH I mostly stopped doing it, due to Lackadaisical's lack of interest in giving away his work/brand and my lack of interest for Armagetron, at the time. Even though I never asked him, I just felt it wouldn't be in his interests to say, yes. Anyway also there had to be a system first, before a brand was needed so that's where it's stopped in my boat, anyway. :P

Time and resources has mostly kept it still a dream. :P And now I'm beginning to feel like really! this time! to retire from Armagetron, so I don't think I would eventually do it.

I'm not exactly sure how I would set everything up yet, but I would like to have me as a US head and someone else that is trusted by euros as the EU head. That's the problem boxed, i doubt enough people would be willing to put in money for it to be successful. I'll be thinking of a full system of arranging payments, brackets, and other specifics. Once I have an idea (everyone is free to contribute) i'll post it all here to obtain feedback.

The teams that would participate would just be super teams of the best players and the matches would take 2 hours each.

I don't know what others would do but I would stick to my team..

Durka - I foresee a major shift in fortress tactics (relatively speaking of course) that would speed up games.

i have to agree with psy in that tactics do seem to be changing a good bit. we could host a trial tourney in the decided style to estimate how long i would take. for people at would be willing to put forward money, i believe a decent bit of time spent is outweighed by the fact theres a chance to win money :). idk anything for sure yet though. keep discussing everyone :D

We had lots of topics about tournaments with cash prizes, and I'm pretty sure the last time there was a discussion about this.
We came to the conclusion that the game wasn't stable enough to run such tournaments (also the tournament rules are far to unclear)

I know 1v1s aren't popular, but since power heavy teams are a problem would having single tournaments work? There couldnt be fort as much this way, but HR, Sumo, DF, and ctf ( if each side switches from offense to defense) could be tested. Since theres not much enthusiasm about it though I guess i'll throw the idea out the window :)
