Only thing I could find on the forum was an issue with vista from 2007.
Anyway, problem is the list doesn't resolve names of servers and doesn't give info on ping/players. Was wondering, if the bug is that hard to track and as it might be the same from 3 years ago... would it be possible for the list to be sortable by IP addresses? I can use the main site to find the right server... going through all the ips does take a lot of time though.
(using 0.3 gives same results as 0.2.8.2, Vista 32bit)
Name resolving of servers (Vista?)
Re: Name resolving of servers (Vista?)
That doesn't sound like a Vista issue, more like an overzealous personal firewall plocking the ping packets. Probable solution: Uninstall everything Norton.
Re: Name resolving of servers (Vista?)
i turned off the vista firewall and antivir network shield... all servers still unreachable.
I don't think it's the problem with the XP-comp that is routing, as it worked ok with ubuntu. Might try later on to switch the firewall off there too, but doubt it will help. Any other possible culprits?
(I remember having to set up exceptions in the firewall to make some game work, but if those are normal ping packets... not even sure which ports to set exceptions to. can connect to the servers manually and play on them normally, but in server browser all are unreachable)

Re: Name resolving of servers (Vista?)
add to that every 5th-6th round or so starting with mega laaaag(lag meters covering half of the map)... dammit. it's hardly playable
Re: Name resolving of servers (Vista?)
Norton. It's hidden somewhere. I can smell it. Maybe on the XP firewall machine?
It's odd, though. The packets send out to ping servers are not your standard ICMP pings, but regular UDP packets of exactly the same kind that is later used for the connection. There are only two differences: the content, which shouldn't matter to routing, and the fact that the pings are sent out in rapid succession, without waiting for a response. Maybe try setting BROWSER_QUERIES_SIMULTANEOUS to 1 on the console or a config file? This eliminates the second difference.
A difference between Vista and Ubuntu would be the source port range in use. Again, I don't know how that may matter, but it's a difference.
Oh, of course, there's the misconfiguration possibility. BROWSER_QUERY_FILTER may be set to 3, it should be 0 or 1. Though even at the highest settings, you should still get the server names over the master. So maybe, if all else fails, you can try setting BROWSER_QUERY_FILTER to 3. You would not get player info, but at least the server names.

Re: Name resolving of servers (Vista?)
BQS was set to 20... changing to 1 did nothing
filter on 3(from 1) did in fact give me names
all pings 999 and no info, but at least I don't have to look for those damned IPs/ports
Thanks!
ughhh... only 20 or so server names got resolved. still improvement
(ruled out the firewall on router issue - neighbours wifi gives exactly the same unreachable results)
edit2: wow... this is strange, the servers apparently change names. no idea how that works... but every 1-3 seconds they do change name 2.8.3 now... going to experiment in the evening with 0.3
and no norton, no
avast
