Sorry I misread you, Phytotron.
I don't have "relationships" with any of the people (I think) you are referring to, not anymore. So if by actively doing something about it, I'm supposed to stop them from flaming/trolling by asking or whatever it is a "friend" would do, it's not going to happen. I agree that the "don't feed the trolls" theory doesn't really work, but personally I'm not in any kind of position to do anything about it. It annoys me, you and a bunch of other people, so by talking about it, at least one of us will find a solution, right? Or we'll come to some kind of agreement at least.. I hope.
Now that you've explained in detail what it is you meant about marketing and the people it attracts, let me explain to you what I meant and why I used the term lightly;
This isn't like putting bumper stickers on a car or holding pickets and shouting about the game, we simply bring the community and it's discussions, news, events, to those websites. For example, instead of coming to the forums with something that some people may see as trivial, like my question about fonts, they can ask there in a different setting and talk it out. The fact that it's on facebook means that those who come across it and/or friends people invite will get an idea of what the community is like as well as learning about the game itself.
Although it is more colloquial, none of the posts are written in slang or "internet speak", so that we keep a level of decorum, so to speak. We don't plan to bring a load of "SNERTs" into the game, and I doubt just by being on facebook that we will. The "marketing " itself is more passive than I think you're assuming, at least for the time being.
Twitter is a different thing, that is simply more about people getting updates, I suppose, about things that happen in the game, both developmental and otherwise. Regardless of how boring it may seem to you Zed :]
On a side note, I'm curios.. To me, the way you speak often makes me feel that you do dislike change, obviously (as you corrected me), that is not the case.. So what is it that Phytotron wants =)? From all aspects, the community and the game. After all, I still think that this thread is less about advertising and more about a group conversation about how we're moving forward, what we want to see. Sooo, open your mouth about those things, I know you want to..
:]

I believe that to truly love is the ultimate expression of the will to live.

Re: Armagetron Ad; progression.
What I used to do, way back in the day, was just add/suggest Armagetron Advanced to those Free game site lists. Just googled free games or something like that and if the site didn't have armagetron on it I would give them the info for it. I figured it only takes a few seconds to do so why not? I'm not sure how many, if any, people started playing from seeing it on one of those though, so it could have just been a waste of time. A lot of the Open source only games lists already had arma on it too.
You've gone too far, turn back!
Re: Armagetron Ad; progression.
Yeah, adding AA to those lists is always a good idea. I just dug around the stat files the masters collect and there have been more new Mac players than can be explained by downloads from SF and LP combined. Based on the comparison with the Windows numbers, I'd estimate that at least 60% of our Mac players get their fix directly from sites like Softpedia.
Also, scanning the sites for outdated versions and notifying them that an update is available would be a good, humble, thankless and neverending task for our minions, errr, fans.
And then there's the million gaming blogs that could be pestered.
