Huh? How can sales.limewire.com NOT be a legitimate URL within the limewire.com top-level domain? Only if your HOSTS file has been hacked AFAIK. OR if limewire has no idea how to control their DNS server. Once you're in the right domain you don't have to worry. Other hacks I don't know about?Matrox wrote:Thanks for your concern. Age and treachery can overcome youth and skill.
You can't register it. You would have to somehow hack it. You can't actually register third level domains (only second level). Third level names are merely entries in the domain name server that is usually run by someone other than the registrar.
In my case, armagetron.imagenook.com is a simple entry in the DNS. It could point to any IP I choose.
The first domain name record hack I can recall was from a guy called Eugene Kaspureff (http://www.kashpureff.com/). He actually hacked domain records for internic.net. He got sort of famous over it actually! He was doing it as protest. I exchanged emails with this guy. He's a very strong minded type person.
Here's one story about it: http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0, ... 32,00.html
But if you google Kashpureff and Internic and Hack, you'll find all sort of things to read about it.
