Saving failure

Post by AHM »

Hi.

I'm facing a few problems lately. At first i was just ignoring it but after a while since i started using colors for my cycle this problem got really anoying.
Here is the story:
I was playing a few days ago and suddenly i had a small power failure. When the power came back i went back to playing Armagetron and saw that its running in windowed mode even though the setting was on fullscreen.I set it on fullscreen again and changed a few other options too.
The next day i came back i saw that its running in windowed mode and none of my changes have been made. :/

I'm not an expert and I have little knowledge of what I'm talking about, But

I've had a similar problem, and assuming you're using windows: Make sure you've disabled "Hidden File Extensions" by following these 6 simple steps.

Again, there's a chance this won't help at all, and if that is the case someone who knows better will have to help.

Are other setting changes saved between sessions? Like player name and colour?

This happened to me, i figured out that sometimes it can switch, mine does it when the window does not respond two times in a row, so when i opened the window for the third time it appeared into full screen mode. To fix it all i did was change it back, and press escape until i was out of the program, thus saving it and making it go back to normal. I am assuming it does not save if it is unexpectedly closed etc, so try that, maybe it will help = )

You mean i should use the exit in the game menu instead of using the window exit?

It's worth a try, isn't it? Only takes a second. :)

Err, yes. If you close the window, you shut the program down, hard, and it doesn't have a chance to save the settings. (Well, technically it would by installing a handler, but that's too system specific and difficult to get right.)

Yeah, just ESC out until the game quits itself. Used to happen to me that anytime the game would crash or I had to force-quit or I had an unexpected shutdown (as in a power outage), next time I loaded up the game it would be windowed (I normally play fullscreen). Thing is, I think it stopped doing that around 0.2.8.something.

May or may not be related.

Well , i didnt experience the problems this time and Armagetron started in fullscreen mode (even after a restart).Looks like you were right , i was using the wrong methods to exit the game (such as using the close from the window, using alt-F4 etc.).

Thanks for your support everyone.

Would shift-esc still save the settings? (As well as making you go faster ;).)

Doesn't SDL have an event for it?
