I glanced through the FAQ and Support forum, but couldn't find my answer. Googling didn't bring any luck either. I use Windows XP and play on a 0.3.0 client.
So basically my C:\\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Armagetronad\ folder appears to be gone and I don't know how to restore it. What I've tried so far is re-installing AA and browsing through FAQ/forums for a solution.
The folder disappeared (due to rage of family member =/) a few months ago, which lead to all in-game settings (i.e. player name, key config and bookmarks etc.) resetting every time the computer was restarted. My solution was to customize settings.cfg (autoexec.cfg wouldn't work) and change all the settings with code. Recently I had to delete all programs so my customized settings are once again gone.
It would be very much appreciated if anybody could point me in the right direction.

ok
Install the revo uninstaller. http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html use it to completely remove armagetron from your system, via a deep scan. Re-install arma and you should be all set.

Armagetron: It's a video game that people should just play and enjoy

@Comp: Thank you, that fixed the missing resource/var problem. Well, almost fixed it.
I now have an Armagetron folder in Application Data, but the resource folder has nothing but 3 empty folders (names: AATeam, Anonymous and wrtlprnft) and the var folder has scorelog - an empty text document - and user_3_1.
If I'm not mistaken I think there should be 2 more config files (or atleast one: user.cfg).
Anyway.. AA still resets when computer is restarted, and now I noticed a message that shows the first time AA is launched.
First it asks me to select First- and Second language, and after accepting the settings, this shows up:
[¹]the rest of that sentence is outside of my screen, so I don't know what it says other than something about my configuration.Welcome to Armagetron Advanced!
Default Settings have been loaded according to your confi[¹]
GL Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
GL Renderer: Radeon X1300/X1550 Series
GL Version: 2.1.7976 Release
Have fun!
I don't know what the message is trying to tell me, and I'm not sure what GL means (I assume it isn't 'Good Luck' nor 'Gay-Lesbian'), but the "Have fun fixing your settings over and over again!" at the bottom is just really rude.
Ooh and, when I was looking around the config files for clues/solutions, I found this in C:\Program\Armagetron Advanced\config - default.cfg:
Which to me sounds like if I had a user.cfg, my problems would be solved.# these settings are loaded JUST ONCE for every user; only if
# the file user.cfg does not exist yet. Placing anything in here
# changes the systemwide defaults, but does not affect anyone who
# has already played.

Re: var - Missing
You need to delete that File in your Application data and uninstall tron again. Then reinstall. This should fix the problem.

Re: var - Missing
Umm, if the problem is that the files got deleted/get deleted over and over again, nothing can bring them back in their original state. Maybe an undeleter, but since the originals have been gone for a while and things happened with the computer, it's unlikely to work.
Re: var - Missing
If I got it right, user.cfg is automatically created the first time AA is launched on a computer.. and after that, somehow linked to all setting changes in-game. And if user.cfg is deleted, it's re-created the next time AA is run, right? So I'm missing some sort of script or setting that helps re-creating the user.cfg
My computer skills are very poor, and I have no idea what I would google for to find such a thing, if that's even what I should be looking for.
Any ideas are very much welcome! Thanks

Is “C:\\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Armagetronad” the correct path? After starting the game, go to the “About” menu at the top-level and it will list all the game paths.
Do setting changes, such as changing the PLAYER_1 name, persist through restarts of the just the game? If not, then the var folder likely has some kind of permissions problem (the game can't write files to that folder).
newer version it will be called user_3_1_utf8.cfg. ArmagetronAd 0.2.8 versions use the user.cfg file.

The user_3_1.cfg file is the user.cfg for 0.3.1. If you use an evenI now have an Armagetron folder in Application Data, but the resource folder has nothing but 3 empty folders (names: AATeam, Anonymous and wrtlprnft) and the var folder has scorelog - an empty text document - and user_3_1.

Re: var - Missing
Oh, okay. I guess my var used to have both because I had both a 0.2.8 and a 0.3.0 client installed. If I don't remember it all wrong though, the 0.3 client was affected from changes in the user.cfg too.dlh wrote:The user_3_1.cfg file is the user.cfg for 0.3.1.
Most of it seems ok, except for the top row. Right after it says what version it is (0.3_alpha8870), the "Location of user.cfg:" is empty. Most likely because I don't have a user.cfg file. Yes, they stay until I restart the computer, and they even end up in the user_3_1 file when AA is closed.dlh wrote:Do setting changes, such as changing the PLAYER_1 name, persist through restarts of the just the game? I don't know how to change permissions and stuff like that, though if that might solve the problem, I'd love to learn it.
Re: var - Missing
This problem seems to have been fixed, as I just turned on my computer with the settings not being reset.
I'm not sure what fixed it, but one (maybe relevant) change I've made is that I disabled the Windows option that hides extensions (.exe, .txt, .cfg etc).
So yeah, problem is fixed. Thanks all for your time!
