odd behavior when zooming (windows 7, tron 0.3)

Post by starrynte »

Currently using windows 7 (not beta), when I zoom in it zooms all the way in, and when I zoom out it zooms all the way out. It appears like the key is being "held" (even though I tapped it very fast). Using Armagetron 0.3_alpha8870.
Any suggestions?

Personally I never use the zoom function but if you want to submit this as a bug head to https://bugs.launchpad.net/armagetronad

Well trying it with the latest 0.3 and with 0.2.8 it seems to act the same, if you tap it lightly you get a few different zoom levels. Try going into a local game setting cycle_speed to 0 then when you stop moving play around with the zoom, zoom all the way out then tap zoom in a few times if it goes all the way in on the first tap then it probably has to do with windows 7 or your client. The big difference between the two versions is that 0.3 zooms quite a bit faster so if you hold the zoom down for more then a fraction of a second it zooms all the way in or out.

Like I said if you can never get varying degrees of zooming then it is probably a bug.

Edit: Better yet set zoom to your mouse wheel, that allows greater control, so if it still only zooms all the way in or out it definitely is a problem with your client or OS.

ah setting it to the wheel works. But the keys I normally use for zooming (- and =) function normally, so...

EDIT: By the way, everything was working on my "old" XP computer, the zoom problem just started yesterday when I moved to this current computer, which is why I thought it was an OS problem

(I can't really play using the wheel to zoom, I was just mentioning it worked)

Well if you got a whole new computer it might be your keyboard too, try your old one in your new computer and if it acts the same as it did then it is your new keyboard, if not then yes it is probably something to do with your new OS.

Just out of curiosity, how/why do you use zoom, and what for?

I'm using the same keyboard as the old computer.
As for why I zoom, it's a bad habit, sometimes I need to zoom in to see more in detail, but it seems that lowering the field of view helps.
