Lightcycle Res GIF
I just learned how to do the basic slideshow type GIF with Photoshop. Yeah, big deal.
This ended up being too large for avatar usage. However, I don't yet know any shortcuts for making it, so had to do it entirely manually. So, to make it worthwhile, I gotta show this off to someone.

Looks good. It won't be long before someone uses it for their new, super-cool Armagetron website or clansite.
I don't know any shortcuts either. I've only made, like, 3 animated GIFs in my life.

Yeah, I don't personally care if someone else uses it. It's just a series of Photoshop 'spatter' effect frames. But, that's obviously the icon that comes with the game. That's ed's work, yeah? I don't know what he thinks of its use.
Check this out.
EDIT: Hmm, it's running rather slowly in my browser. It was smoother within Photoshop itself. Well, I have a simpler one for actual avatar I'll break out sometime in the future.

Slow on Firefox 3. But man, that's a sick avatar.Phytotron wrote:Hmm, it's running rather slowly in my browser. It was smoother within Photoshop itself. Well, I have a simpler one for actual avatar I'll break out sometime in the future.

Yeah, Word, this isn't meant to become a "hey, everybody post your random animated GIFs here!" thread. I just wanted to show the one, as the title indicates. You could've at least made it something to do with a lightcycle.

Re: Lightcycle Res GIF
There was an issue with some framework Safari (perhaps others?) used to display animated GIFs. It wouldn't even cache the last frame, so it had to recalculate the entire animation to display each frame (I don't think it figured out non-dirty updates because it got uniformly slower). So by the time you've reached the hundredth frame, you'll be doing the work of a hundred frames per frame. I'm surprised many such animations didn't even get that slow. This was supposedly fixed only in 10.6, but I really don't know because I never do anything with extensive GIF animations.Phytotron wrote:Hmm, it's running rather slowly in my browser. Edits:
10.5.8: CPU going up and up and up until maxing out a core, speed going down and down and down
10.6.2: constant CPU use, no speed problems

Yeah, I tried in Camino, Firefox, and Safari, as well as Image Ready. The only place it's not slow is in the "save for web" window in Photoshop. I think it must accelerate it or something. I also think I just used too many "tweens," which were supposed to make like a sort of motion blur. On the one above, I went 3 between each frame. Here's one with just 1 tween per:
This is it with no tweens:- -=VcL.Rajinn

Re: Lightcycle Res GIF
I kinda hate myself for using these, by the way.
But they're so neato, or at least novel.
