Dealing with people who don't grind

Post by Lackadaisical »

Can we make it a common practice to shuffle over nongrinding people, instead of killing/complaining/kicking them? New people are usually a lot less harmful on the outside, even if they don't grind. Of course they can still go inside their own zone, but explaining to them that they shouldn't go into the yellow/blue zone is a lot easier than trying to learn them how to grind/split/not die and kill teammates. I'm a pretty firm believer that most people will figure out the grind themselves if they get enough playing time to figure out the mechanics, and I think the best environment to do so is on the outside where mistakes don't carry much consequences.

Brilliant! I will do my best to get others to shuffle accordingly! Great idea, Lack. I think i will make a few instant chats, just for this purpose!

why not as /admin command?
/admin shuffle [Player] [position]
and as vote:
/vote shuffle [Player] [position]

Well, I guess what I like about my idea is that people take the matter (nongrinders mostly affect the people on the outside of the nongrinder) in their own hands, instead of relying on an admin or the majority of the players. Cut out the middle man.

I think adding a command is the wrong way to handle this. People get offended. But, if we as a community accommodate them, we can encourage new fortress players! If we just force them to a certain position, many will just leave.

Yeah, no new commands. If you're going to vote, you might as well suspend. Lack has proposed an easy, pro-active solution to the problem of non-grinders. Also, we don't need new commands to be abused. New commands also delay the release of the new, stable clients.

This suggested practice of shuffling inside of the non-grinder does work well; I've gotten people to do it recently and it's helpful.

So I might be wrong, but I have an instinct telling me that you do not have the slightest idea what suspending is. Care to elaborate?

Yeah, he wants moderator/admin status in the game. I'll refrain from using the heavier insults that come to my mind and just call that approach naive.

new players don't even notice, let alone care. We should work towards implementing this.

Let's add a MESSAGE_OF_DAY with a picture of the grind. It can be all colorful and stuff too.

Code: Select all

Please learn to "grind" and "split" properly...
