Did you made the moviepack on your own?

Hmm... I think the wiki is wrong. I've never put a moviepack folder into the configuration directory. Try the installation folder and get back to us.

ya the moviepack folder should not be in the config folder/ directory, erm it needs to be in the armagetron advanced dowload folder where u will c your textures folder, your cfg folder, your all that stuff folder, the moviepack folder should be in there right with them....

also make sure the moviepack is turned on in your game window...
system settings > misc stuff > moviepack "on"
Attachments
Here is the folder it should be in, notice the folder named "moviepack" is directly in the armagetron advanced downloaded folder.

He said he was on a Mac, fellas. Things are located differently.

First, make sure you've renamed it simply "moviepack." Your first post seems to indicate you have. Secondly, it must be located in your user directory. So, not at HD/Library/Application Support. It should instead be [home—whatever your username is]/Library/Application Support/Armagetron Advanced/moviepack.

You'll usually see the "[home—whatever your username is]" expressed as a tilde, in which case it would be written: ~/Library/Application Support/Armagetron Advanced/moviepack.

Folders I have in the same location include moviepack, moviesounds, resource, screenshots, textures, var. You should see at least resource and var, to know you're in the right place.

[Used to be you would place these customizations within the application itself (right-click, "show package contents"), and you still could, but this way is easier and your customizations will remain if and when you use a newer version of the game. And you don't have to worry about "backing up" the original textures folder; it'll always be there for reference inside the app package contents.]

Important: Check that the moviepack folder contains the settings.cfg file. If that's missing it'll just default to the textures graphics. Could be your problem; I've seen moviepacks around that leave that out.

And, of course, make sure you've enabled the moviepack in the game and you've got the details settings on. :)

That wiki entry is a mess. It muddles the textures folder and the moviepack. They're separate things.

Interesting. I didn't know it could work in both places.

Aye, settings.cfg. I suspected as much. That should be in the wiki, all this should, but we know how that thing works. Loads dedicated to moronic game modes and gameplay rules, while fundamental subjects are given cursory and sloppy attention.

Yes, you have to make a new folder called textures, just as with the moviepack or moviesounds. Actually, what I did was copy the original textures folder, just to make sure I had all the necessary files, like the fonts and whatnot. Then I just swap individual pieces in and out.

What do you want to change about the floor? The graphic or the grid?

If you want to tile an image, then you replace floor.png—that's with both textures and the moviepack—and select "textured plane" under System Setup>Display Settings>Detail Settings>Floor Detail. ("Dual textured plane" will also show the floor.png, but only when alpha belnding is off.)

If you want to change the size of the tiles, you adjust grid_size (textures) or grid_size_moviepack (moviepack).

If you want to change the color of the floor and/or gridlines, you adjust...

Code: Select all

—Textures—
floor_red
floor_green
floor_blue

—Moviepack—
moviepack_floor_red
moviepack_floor_green
moviepack_floor_blue
...with decimal values between 0 and 1 (you can think of it in terms of percentages—e.g., 0.25 = 25%). It's RGB color combinations like your lightcycle color, but using different numbers, obviously. (It's been suggested that they use the same values across the board, for text, lightcycles, and floor, but that's evidently been ignored.) This will affect different things depending on which Floor Detail setting you select. Easier for you to just try it and see for yourself than me describe each one.

If you're going to use a tiled image for the floor, it's generally a good idea to set all floor color values to 1, unless you want to darken or tint it.

Or do you want to do something else?
