Re: Ladle 26?
Not to burst anybody's bubble, but the interest in various game modes seems to come in waves. Right now, the focus is off of Fortress. I have seen a resurgence of HR (everybody's favorite on this forum), CTF, CTFS, and DF. But, I wouldn't be surprised if the focus swings back to Fortress within 4-7 months. Also, one thing that we have never addressed is how to keep motivating teams that are not winning Ladles. I know of several American teams that kind of gave up once they realized how tough the competition really is. This is why I have said on several occasions that I am convinced that to build Fortress as a game mode, long term, we need to have some other kind of regular tourney that is more geared toward newer teams and players.

Tbh, the game always slows down at this time of the year. Most people who play this game go to school and don't have as much time as they had before.

Re: Ladle 26?
I think it is a mistake to not continue to have the ladle monthly. I don't think that having it monthly is negatively affecting the number of participants. It will pick up come winter time! I still think that we need to consider some sort of quarterly competition geared towards building fortress to attract new teams...

Well, Fortress Brawl was a nice way to mix-up good and not-so-good players. People who normally wouldn't be on a winning team could be then. Why don't you organize an event like that some time later?

Good point sine! Think I will do just that in the next 3-4 weeks! Leave it to sine.wav to point out the obvious solution!

That's quite true. How about creating divisions which could actually solve this issue, you don't really need to create a whole new tournament or such.compguygene wrote:I know of several American teams that kind of gave up once they realized how tough the competition really is. But it gets tricky trying to figure out which division the teams need to be in and such. I'm sure this would work, though. One way to decide divisions is the win or loss ratio per team. We could even look at all the past results of won matches and calculate them all up and decide on which percentage is which division. I guess "new" teams can start from 0 to avoid complications and accept the fact that there are minor imperfections in the calculation. It won't be unfair because "new" teams (teams that have never took part before) would just start at the highest division or mid division.
Re: Ladle 26?
Also an idea worth trying. Maybe we can use the results from the FPL at the end of the season.Flex wrote:How about creating divisions which could actually solve this issue, you don't really need to create a whole new tournament or such.
Re: Ladle 26?
As most of you know, fortress is my favourite mode.
At this, I want to come up with an Idea, which is easily possible to realise. It’s the same structure like in the ladle, except there will be two tables.
At the start the second table will be empty, but after the first round it would be filled up with the teams, that will loose the first round.
So the teams still would have a chance to win the second table. The matches would be going on parallel and there won’t be a need for more servers. At the end we would have two winner teams, one absolute and one of the second elite.
It wouldn’t take much longer, and probably be more fun. I mentioned this long time ago, but nobody didn’t really thought about. Maybe now time has come to try a new kind of tourney or ladle in the future.

Re: Ladle 26?
Great ideas guys. We do really need to find a solution to this to scale things up!

Re: Ladle 26?
I'd be all for that idea.
Re: Ladle 26?
the system i'd prefer is the one ww used to have for their ctf tournaments ("loser to slot xy").

Re: Ladle 26?
This is interesting. Please prepare your arguments for the next round of Ladle-voting. Shortly before then we'll open a thread and debate the issue in preparation for a vote (I'm sure it's been debated before, but I cba to look for it at the moment).

Re: Ladle 26?
double elimination might take too long because if there are delays in single elimination, they will be even worse for double
