Hello,
I always used the font 'billinair' for Armagetron. Now I switched to the font 'nearest' for a better fps. Then I discovered that if I'm using the font nearest all the text in Armagetron appears very strange and distorted. This isn't appearing when I'm using the billinair font. How can I use the nearest font without that distorted text?
I already looked this up in this forum and I found the problem too, they all say you have to do something with your driver, but I'm no computer freak so I don't exaclty know what to do. Can you tell me step by step what I have to do, would be very nice.
Btw, I'm using Windows Vista.
Cya and thanks in advance.

Re: Strange text
Can you post a screenshot of how distorted it is? The effect is SHOULD have is simply that the font is unfiltered, making it pixelated and blocky when enlarged. It shouldn't be any speed advantage at all on halfway modern machines (and by that I mean less then six years old or so).

Re: Strange text
Something like this:

After about 5 seconds it turns into normal text, but always the first seconds are those strange characters, only with the font nearest.

Crivens! Go to your graphics adapter's homepage and get a fresh driver directly from there. You're using software emulated OpenGL, you don't want that.
(And yeah, I'd also blame the garbled characters on the OpenGL driver. All we do is change the filtering setting, it looks like it also causes the texture coordinates to go all over the place.)

Why would you want to say a silly thing like that anyway?

Re: Strange text
Okay thanks, but how can I find out what type of graphics card I have? And if I know that, I just have to download a new driver for that specific card?
Re: Strange text
I don't know about Vista, but on XP, you get told what GPU you have by right clicking on the desktop, selecting "Properties", going to the "Settings" tab (My GPU is already listed there, then), clicking "Advanced", going to tab "Adapter".
Re: Strange text
That actually looks pretty cool, like what armagetron would look like on an old NES, 8bit tron.
