Shoutcast radio program idea

Post by compguygene »

I have heard several people in the last year talk about the idea of running an internet "radio show" for tron. I have a VPS that has specs that can run a shoutcast station, and will setup a shoutcast server, if anyone wants to actually produce a "radio show" for tron. I thought it could be done "weekly" to start and run on a continuous feed. We could also set up a corresponding website and domain name. On said website people could get podcasts of the show, etc. If others i interested in doing the work, i will gladly donate the server!

I think a podcast would be more practical.

speaking of this. what about getting z-man or someone on the FLOSS weekly podcast. They film/tape them Wednesdays at 20:30 GMT and last about an hour. I'm not sure if they would do a full show on a game, but it never hurts to ask Randal.

I think that sounds great. The reason that I mention the "shoutcast" idea, is this. We could run a regular set of programs that could be used to not only inform the Arma community, but could be used to market Arma. I agree that podcasts are the best way to go...but I have seen radio shows like this used to market free software in the past.

I really like the 2020's podcast (http://davidpinto.org/tron/tronpodcast.html) - post match ladle interviews would be great :). Personally I think sound without video just won't work here.

i'll do it!
whatever it is :)
the podcast thing was good
but it cost me money to host the server
so it's not sustainable really

also
the idea was to be as sleek with the engagement on the grid as possible
so post-production is kept to a minimum

so
what are the options?
if we can get a live feed online
visuals too
that would be coolio :)
hold the line

I've got a couple of GB to spare. How much do you think we need? Maybe can add it to my adventuresoftron.com site.

Why not put it on YT, DM, Vimeo or somewhere else? These videos need more audience :)

i put vids on youtube
i was trying this podcast format
and i have used nearly 4 gigs with 11 episodes
i find the higher quality is necessary
since it is such a simple game
eg seeing the grid

how do we do a live stream thing...?

We could have a guy talking during the game about the two teams and certain plays. All we would need is a ventrilo room where everyone piles in. (It could be saved)

it's tricky

recording the game as it happens requires real life directing/editing
to ensure that the commentating matches what people see
unless you are going for pure audio
and has been said already
will lose a lot of audience

i can imagine a team consisting of a director/editor
who can choose between different camera angles which different spectatators are using
but the integration of this would be hellish
would it?

can the rec app be rewritten as an editing app?
like the master server centralises all the player's positions
and then pushes out what is going on to all the players
so the editing app centralises all the players/spectators recordings
and pushes out the edited/directed version?

i'm not going to fall into the trap of asking developers to look at this
unless....
unless i get a developer interested in the game wrt tron++

VLC media player can stream to a web app. It's pretty cool. I was going to stream matches, but my bandwidth is too low and I'm too cheap to buy more.

im,e used to playing in front of a crowd
and relish the thought of getting involved with this
even do a bit of radian radio on skype now and again
i could easily put some jingles together using my recording equipment if needed

however,,you are going to need a huge amount of material to keep the programme going even for three or four hours so mixing the podcasts with longer spells of just audio would prob be the way forward to begin with until a good and quickly edited podcast system is evolved
is their a way of streaming a server game like fort cafe ?? if so ,a couple of commentators doing thier thing would be the best bloody radio station on the net ..heh
i just love it
