Go out on friday night - works good for me.
And you can drink more on friday than saturday - it's scientifically proven

Unless I'm forgetting anyone, it looks like me, garisimo, and Oblivion are the only West Coast players, so making it earlier shouldn't be a problem.
compguygene wrote:not true...1/3 of my Ww players are on the west coast or mountain time. These players have trouble making the start of the ladle now, after a late night saturday night.
I'm talking specifically in the Pacific timezone comp. Players in the Mountain timezone are 1 hour later. For me, the first round started at 11:00 which is definitely not too early. I have no problem moving this back 1 hour to 10:00am for me. Then, if it gets earlier than that, that's when we start having problems. It seems like 10am - 10pm is optimal, so if we start at 10am my time, we hopefully will be near finishing at 10pm German time.
Seriously guys, if your complaining because it's to early for you or to late for you then just don't go? I know, I know there aren't many Australian players so that is why we are always singled out, but do you see us crying about times because it's too early or too late? You gotta toughen up, I woke up (well didn't really sleep) at 4am on monday morning (didn't have school luckly), and played at 5am. You can learn many things from tron and one of them is life isn't always fair.
It seems it all has went good,, even if less players than wanted...
Sorry I couldn't compete.

Ok, but why did I add this signature? I was like 15 and thought I was smart? What a brat.
I see your point, Durka, but I was expanding it. Starting before 12:00pm-1:00pm on a Sunday is too early for some people who do stuff very late at night on a Saturday night. Considering that armagetron is a game that hits a target age range of 13-25 as the largest base of players, I think we need to keep in mind that many of our 18-25 players stay out Saturday nights rather late, and live a lifestyle that leaves them unavailable before 12:00pm-1:00pm their local time.

I didn't get to bed until 3am on Saturday (techincally Sunday), but I still didn't wake up at noon. I think you're being a little over generous here and besides, there're way more Europeans than West Coast Americas/Canadians (hi Joe!) so it's worth the sacrifice IMO.
Moving an hour back or forward is all temporary fixes. At this rate we will be discussing this again in 6 months and 6 months from then.
I'd rather we put more work into Pink Tomato's php tourney management and experiment with perhaps a 20 min match or maybe develop a really great ladder or league and try that.
Ladles are easy enough to organize and at this point they pretty much just happen. It took me about 2 hours total of necessary organizing. About an hour at the beginning of the month, resetting challenge board, announcing on clan sites and another hour the week before setting brackets and stuff like that. Of course more time is spent discussing settings and talking to teams about participating. But with just these 2 hours, 16 team Ladles could pretty easily keep happening every month.
Then again I will be away for a big chunk of the summer, I know someone else will step up, like Durka did in Ladle 21 and like I did for Ladle 18.
Anyway, this goes to say that we can experiment and work on new stuff without losing the old because the old is pretty easy to throw together. Unfortunately I think the lack of organizing can sometimes be reflected in the event.
**More than 16 Teams -> Predominantly Euro teams play for the play-in matches @ 12: PM EST
First Matches (Sweet 16) Starts at 1 PM EST
Second Matches (Elite Starts at 1:45 EST
2:30-3:30 INTERMISSION
Third matches (Final 4) 3:30-4:45 EST
Final Match 4:45-5:30 EST
West coast players would start earliest @ 10 AM which I think is perfectly legitimate.. Finals for Euro Players would end at the latest 10:30 PM GMT for you guys. The break will allow everyone to get up and away from tron because even with like 5-10 minute breaks we all know maybe we'll piss and poo but other than that we stay on tron.
1. Issue of team continuity. It's hard for some teams to get all 6 of their players to show up (even with weeks of notice) let alone on two separate days.
2. The amount of teams that sign up definitely does not justify breaking it up into more than 1 day. Even 32 teams I feel should be played in one day. It's only 5 separate matches.
3. Ladle is not only a test of skill, but team play, lag adaptation, and stamina as well. I think the extra matches ADD to the gratification of winning the ladle. You know, arrow did have a tough time getting to the finals, probably tougher than any other team before, but teams that play in the super bowl, the stanley cup playoffs, the NBA playoffs all are faced with distinguishable differences in the strength of schedule. To split it up into two days takes away from the aura and grandiosity of the event. However, I do recognize the need to split it up when it gets to become to big for one day. But then I would vote for something along the lines of double elimination 4 sundays in a row, then 2 months off.
sinewav wrote:I like an idea epsy had about splitting the ladle up between continents.
In future - yes. It's probably the only good idea with >64 teams. But at the moment it would make competition too repetitive in early stages. Same teams would play each other all the time.
