Best of three matches, right? That seems to be the unwritten standard for fort competition. Maybe we can say "1 bout" of three matches per month.

We could use the wiki for this right? All we need it a schedule. Speaking of, can you provide us with a mock full-season schedule with 4-6-8 teams or whatever? Just to get a look at the organization.

surely we can have a full 8v8
and do best of 5 matches
if we are playing once a month in this league?

Make it shorter, but more frequent - that's the difference between league and cups.
Maybe 1-2 matches every week; I think most teams could gather 6-8 players for 30-minutes game even on weekday.

OK, after talking with epsy in msn this morning, I officially retract my earlier post! 6v6 is not just about getting better server performance! It also keeps teams from doing things like having 5 defenders! I think that the gameplay is better in 6v6. Upon reflection, I have found 6v6 to be more intense than larger teams!

Also, I know that the majority of you are in love with 2v2 conquerable for the fortress settings. I would like to point out 2 downsides that have been effecting the ladle in a very negative way.

1. Everybody complains when these matches run long. But this is the biggest reason they run long. In ladle 21 the match between Ww and TR ran 1/2 long because of this setting. The every round was close and at the end Ww won 1 round, and TR won 1 round. In the end TR won by 2 points.
By the way, I apologize for Ww not starting on time this Bowl. But my VPS vendor that I hosted the Ww Ladle server on, decided, with no notice as to when, to upgrade the hard drive of my server! So, Manta, 15 minutes before the ladle, setup an appropriate server. It took an extra 10 minutes after the appointed start time, the server's settings were all correct! But both teams had to wait for manta to implement the auth setup so we could play in the server!

2. It makes for more exciting and intense gameplay. I have several servers that use 2v2 conquerable: TheServerPharm: FFF, TheServerPharm: FourTeamFourtress, and Fortress Bistro. Also, Fortress Cafe 2v2 conquerable. I think if you play in those servers, you'll discover that the matches are much quicker and much more intense. Personally, I find myself enjoying the game play a lot more. And, I have taken the exact same teams from a Ladle Server, to my Fortress Bistro server. It did not change the usual outcome of the matchup. But, when most fortress players are playing in Ladle Servers, I have noticed that people that are new to fortress get very bored with the gameplay. However, I have had a lot more success in taking well experienced players who have not really played Fortress into Fortress Cafe or Fortress Bistro. They don't get frustrated watching others play while they are dead! These new Fortress Players are many times stuck watching the end of a "Sumo Match". I even had one newbie comment that to me, outside of the server.

I fear 2v2 conquerable will make teams play more defensively, add 8v8 to this and we have chess in result :)
On the other hand, league play shouldn't be too similiar to cup games, so teams won't get bored with one of them.
FFF League with 2v2 conq, anyone?

We could try experimenting with a time limit on matches for a league play.

Haha, just imagined it's, say 72-76, 20 sec. remaining and losing team start to chase opponents for points. That would make great vid with Benny Hill song

But yeah, that can be good idea.

time limit is essential
for whole games or for specific matches or even rounds

please consider:
1
don't cut out the drama
whereas watching a 2v2 might be considered boring
it could be a game decider
and that's what gives the game critical dramatic points
2
don't make the game facile
comparing it to chess or GO is a good thing
that it is so fast and has at the same time depth is a rare quality to a game

if we are going to have the league
let's not worry about timing too much (which is essentially tronic question)
let's produce the best gaming experience we can
forget about noobs and getting new players in
make the best settings for the best games for us as players :)

That's because in the Ladle/Bowl, every kill matters, so players play a thousand times safer and take way less risks, not because of the zone settings.

I vote for Ladle settings. Speaking of vote, we can have a voting thread when the organizational part is done. Let's focus on the season and schedule right now.

Concord, what do we need to do to get this rolling? How can we help?

I know a bunch of players won't be able to do this. I can only really set aside one Sunday a month as is the case with many other players.

in my opinion, it should be a fortnightly event,
i am myself very keen to get something like this going, an active fort league would get loads more people taking up fortress. i would also happily donate a lot of time in getting this set up if we needed

if lack of staff/organistion is a problem, you could always try and go through an organisation like www.clanbase.com or something similar? there's a 'add your game' application section that with enough votes will get you a free league that looks after itself. it may not be appropriate for the AFL, but something like that may save a lot of time?
