re-activating the mod and cycle lists

Post by philippeqc »

Hi,

This is an effort to re-activate the lists of all the mods, skins, models and other goodies. It has been maintained by yours truly until somewhere in november/december. But because of some time constraints, I find myself unable to keep the task.

It is quite easy by itself, you dont need to know html. it just to log in, and edit the message to add any new godies that get posted to the forums. Some cut and paste, nothing fancy.

So I've made copies of the old list, with one change. I've created a new user account to make the new posts, named modlist, how original. this way, anyone individual or group can easily take up the job.

If you think the list was a good idea and should be preserved, then the just log in with "modlist" password "lalaland" and add references to all the nice work that gets to be posted on these forums. O did I just post the password in public, well yes. So the account if for grab to the first one who takes it. Not that you need to cut down other people from helping you, just that if it happen, you have been warned.

See you all

should the sticky topics in /graphical enhancements/ part of this msg boad be locked? ppl keep posting directly into them & modlist has no way of deleting posts..

or should people just post thier stuff there.. at least its all going into 1 thread.. makes modlists job easier!

heh

but it makes the list unusable. They will be clottered with many discussions about the mods, and it will be nearly impossible to find back information.

Tank, delete the old lists (the ones I started) and make sticky the new ones. Also, make them only writable by the user modlist.

Thanks

The problem comes from that this is technically impossible...
You can't have a thread that only one person can write to. I've got an idea or two tho that I'm just working thru...

OK. I've created a sub-forums speciffically for releases and the discussion of releases. WIPs, etc., still belong in this forum. The forum is http://guru3.sytes.net/viewforum.php?f=47 and a post explaining things is http://guru3.sytes.net/viewtopic.php?t=1527. I hope this satisfies everyone...

gotten an idea in the shower.

We know that most people will not read text in the mod list, not at the top, not in the middle, not at the end. They wanna check the shiny picture and add their own mod as fast as they can, and reading stands in the way of that (I'm guilty of that crime too...)

So why not make a picture where a character just say "Stop! If your planning to post something on this list, you'd better read this before", have the real text under the picture (not part of it). This would be in the last (#11, after the reservations) message of either lists. (or in the first reserved message, to be moved as the lists grow... details! details!)

That should get their attention!

Well, so is the concept. The actual content of the picture could be improved by someone smart (ie: not me). What are your thoughts

that sounds pretty good..

a forums a forum.. unless theres going to be a downloads section & someoen to maintain it,.. *shrugs*

maybe somone in the armagetron community with server bandwidth would like to devote a site or part of their site to a downloads archive of mods & such..

i have no www. skills :/ sadly

we can just let the sticky mods threads get really big & mebbe repost them & purge the old one or... dunno

seems ok for now to me, i just need to hunt all the stuff thats missing from it

I know. I abused the semantic of the forum with that list. I've seen something similar on animereactor, and though it was a good and simple way to compile a much needed list.

Yes, html would surely be more appropriate to the task at hand. But I'll keep dealing with an imperfect medium (this forum) rather than to wait idly for a perfect one. That said, should someone want to port the list to html, I'll be glad to help maintaining it.

Well, it happened again. we need clearer instructions (mine are bad, tanks are much better).

Well, I'll do some damage control for the moment.

Moved the lists inside the "Release list" category.
Added some clearer instructions.
Would welcome comments how to make the instructions clearer.
Could the list be made sticky?
Could the old old list be unmade sticky and deleted?
Could the old list be deleted?
Anything else need to be done?

I've noticed that there are some images that arent that nice in the mod/moviepack list.

Could someone make properly sized images for the following :
angel movie pack (too big, will have to be linked to)
invid mod (too small, the models seems so rich in details, its sad to have such a incomplete glims of it. It would benefit from a big picture to be only linked, so the details can be appreciated)

In the models list:
Unamed (very low count model) would need a better name, and a picture that would show more than just a blub ;) [that is my fault]
Recognizer by Supertard could use a properly sized picture
Timmy by Supertard could use a properly sized picture

Thanks for you help
