an idea...that might be wacky...or rock!

Post by Cosmic Dolphin »

This might sound wacky...but i think i could do a tron theme song based from Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name." Ya know, something like "Stuck in a box, and you're to blame! Its what gave the game a good name!" Something to that effect. Am I just too weird or is that a good idea? Want some opinions, even if they are blunt! Tell me now!

Ok, but why did I add this signature? I was like 15 and thought I was smart? What a brat.

Er, to really get the parody to work, you kind of have to stick with the "You give ... a bad name".

You might change the ... every chorus, though. Do "noobs" for one, "devs" for another, etc.

The only thing worse than annoying popular music, is the prorogation of annoying popular music. Thumbs down.

Sinewav promised me heaven, then put me through hell.

(I'm a closet Bon Jovi fan, so watch out for that wall!)

I admit "Slippery When Wet" was a pretty phenomenal album. It's just hard for me to grasp the staying power of some of those songs. I mean, really... :|

I guess the music of Bon Jovi defines the state of hard rock at that time. But if I'm going to listen to "anthem rock", I think I'll just listen to Boston instead.

Although, I did learn a few Bon Jovi songs on the guitar. It really helped me get into a lot of girl's pants back then. So, I guess I shouldn't be a hater.

I like all Bon Jovi up till, but not including, New Jersey. They really started to suck, then.

On my mp3 player right now I've got Social Disease. :) Now that homer here has reminded me of other songs from that album, I'm going to need to spend some more time with bittorrent, apparently.

My problem is that Bon Jovi came out right before I hit puberty, and had their peak when I was having my own hormonal peak, and like all the music I liked then, good or not, it's permanently inscribed on my soul. That's why I like the Bangles's version of Hazy Shade of Winter and my sister hates the Bangles for making it.

Besides all that, I really do love the guitars on the earlier albums, before Ritchie Sambora started pretending he was a Texan. It's much harder than Boston, that's for sure, and doesn't make me sleepy. Also, I like the fact that they explore different themes than the typical "I love you baby" and "I love you baby, please come back" themes. True, they mostly stick with themes revolving around love, but come on, man. Only Lonely is about abusive relationships, Price of Love is about adultery, Love Lies is about two guys dueling over a woman. And Social Disease is a classic, imo. It's up there on my list of favorite songs that have stayed good even as I've grown up, and not even Def Leppard can make that claim.

On a side note, Your_mom is also from New Jersey. I hear Bon Jovi is his favorite band.

Excellent observations Lucifer. And I now better understand the deeper connection you and others have with the music of Bon Jovi - and the Bangles too! That explains why you kept belching out the lyrics to "Walk Like An Egyptian" the other day in sumo.

I spent a lot of time "pretending" to like Bon Jovi to get chicks. Maybe I could have actually enjoyed it instead of completely dismissing it like I did back then. I'll give it a second chance.

Heh, actually, that's part of this little identity quest I'm on, apparently. I'm downloading all the music I grew up with, before I turned all metalhead on everybody (because I have most of the metal I grew up with already). Watching a lot of the movies from back then, following up on some (like finally seeing Aeon Flux, a movie my ex-wife never wanted me to see because I was familiar with the original cartoon. Side note, she tried to prevent me from seeing the Hitchhiker's movie for similar reasons. Apparently for her, my life started only when I met her).

So I went after Walk Like an Egyptian, and She Blinded Me With Science (that's where the Miss Akamoto line comes from), and a bunch of others. Wondering what kind of life I would have had if I'd pursued that music instead of discarding it and going into metal.

The verdict so far? Iron Maiden is still the best sumo music. The Bangles, Nena, and Michael Jackson are all promising sumo music, but in the case of Michael Jackson, it's just too slow. Nena is about right, but I have mixed results because I often get distracted by the music. ;) Same problem with the Bangles.

Now, anybody know which Siouxsie and the Banshees song has the chorus that goes "What I am is what I am, you what you are, oh why?". Starts with "I'm not aware of too many things, I know what I know if you know what I mean".

Hmm... I don't remember a Siouxsie song like that, but I do remember an Edie Brickell & New Bohemians song with those lyrics. Are they related somehow?
