Getting models INTO the game.

Post by Misery »

Hopefully someone can help me out. I've been banging my head against the wall for the last 2 days.

I'm creating a movie pack. I have EVERYTHING done, except a few sounds and a model. I've started tinkering with ideas in blender. I also have 3DS max 8. My main problem... I can't get ANY models to work in the game. PERIOD.

I've tried converting the ase file into several different formats to use in both Blender and 3DS 8. But every damn time I export the ase and run it in-game, it crashes, no warning. I even tried importing models I've found on the forums and exporting them without making ANY changes, and still nothing. I'm at a total loss. Maybe someone can give me a brief explanation as to how I would go about just importing the original ase moviepack cycle into blender or 3ds 8 and exporting it back into the game. I'm sure it's just some small thing I'm missing, but I lack knowledge in 3DS max 8. I'm pretty decent with Blender. Any help appreciated.

Indeed I have, Tank. But unfortunately that only works with .mod models and not the .ase model format for movie packs.

Odd, perhaps the ASE layout changed. Can you attach one of the generated .ase files here?

What did you use to import/export the ase files in blender?

I used this: http://www.katsbits.com/htm/tools_utilities.htm#ase

Yeah Lack, those are the same scripts I'm using right now. :)

Well, I dunno what I did at first that made the game crash every time, but It works now. BUT... the cycles were invisible. urg... what I forgot? MATERIALS! And presto, I can import a working model into and out of Blender to the game.

I think my problem I had at first was me over complicating the whole process. Using different programs to change the ase to 3ds and exporting them back to ase. Kept crashing the game. So now I'm using ONLY blender, and everything flows smoothly. With any luck, I'll have my movie pack done soon. Thanx. :D

Heeeeeres another quick question.

I know that performance differs from system to system... But what would you guys suggest as an absolute maximum polygon count for a cycle model? I don't want to go too overboard.
