big probs (mac)

Post by mattadams »

Hello, I'm experiencing very severe problems for hosting my servers on a mac. People can connect fine, but after someone leaves, they cannot connect again. So basically, they can only connect and see my server in the master list before the first time they connect. Any support would be greatly appreciated.

some log excerpts could be useful here, can you post what appears when someone disconnects? also, what appears when they try to connect again?

that is probably caused by the players refreshing the list before the server has reconnected to the master server. while it is doing so, it will not let players in.

well, the method of getting the money: people wont use it if its not secure, because nowadays everyone is hyped about "security", all use windows XP because linux isnt "licensed". bah. what a bunch of jerks

Depends a lot on what country you live in, and we're not lawyers…

From what i have seen and read on this subject some "donation" based projects have had to change to "gift" supported to avoid legal issues. If its a gift to you when hosting a server then i think that it should be fine. When you get into grey areas is when you start talking about making money off of it, then you would have to declare the earnings. I would say just have a look on the paypal site for some info on this.

If you're in the US you have to declare the earnings anyway, even if they're a gift. You only don't declare gift income below some threshold, or so I hear, but when I was going through it, I found you had to declare it all. It's just that the IRS doesn't expect you to claim everything you get in a Christmas card.

But when you declare the earnings to the IRS, you can also deduct expenses. So always make it so that expenses > earnings, and you don't have to pay taxes on it.

But i wonder in a situation for funding a server were a paypal would be setup so that members can help out with server costs. Ppl would be giving money but for funding, that would just be a transfer.

You don't really want to be splitting hairs with the IRS. If money comes into your possession that wasn't previously yours, it's income.
