New Player, blah blah blah...

Post by Avi »

Hello people.

My name is Avi, and I just got into Armagetron this evening. I actually stumbled across it and couldn't believe that I hadn't played it before.

Although this was my first night playing Armagetron, I've been racing light cycles online for a few years. I used to organize tournaments for the game Tron 2.0, so I have lots of experience forcing people into walls at high speeds. We also play disc arena games, and a form of deathmatch known as Derez. The light cycle games are very similar to Armagetron's, with a few slight differences. The single player campaign is very creative and unlike any other FPS game out there. I highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan of all things Tron.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop in and say "Hello". Expect to see me in the servers pretty frequently.

Welcome, enjoy the game. There are indeed a few slight differences with Tron 2.0, it's what saves our ass. ;)

I played a few more rounds last night with a couple of guys (and one girl...but who really knows for sure) and it was a blast. I dig how everyone has a slightly twisted sense of humor...makes me feel at home.

I think it will take me a while to understand all of the rules to the different gametypes, but I'm willing to learn. You all will just have to be patient with me until I graduate from the noob stage.

Nobody "graduates from the noob stage". When you think you've graduated, there's always someone around to school you. :)

Welcome.

POST EDITED FOR CONTENT (Dumb Questions Removed)

I did some skinning work last year with the Tron 2.0 community. Here are some examples:

The Brees (named after Saints QB Drew Brees):

The Ghost Rider:

The Jerry Garcia:

Pimped Out (Wood grain and leopard skin):

Purple Haze:

I was taught how to skin by the members of LDSO (Living Dead System Operators), who spend a lot of time developing Tron 2.0 content. I am hoping to get some of them to make the jump to Armegatron. They're all a bunch of great players and good guys in general, and I think they would be an asset to this community.

Enough rambling from me. See ya' on the grid.

I'd love to answer these questions, but the reason we have a wiki and an FAQ on said wiki is so we don't get deluged with posts asking these questions.

You're right...

I edited the post and I'll just have to look it all up when I get the time.

Welcome Avi,
I hope your friends are joining us pretty soon too. We do need some new people to support the community and if possible the development team.

I went to join my favorite server last night, and one of the Tron 2.0 guys was in there playing already...so we're definitely starting to trickle in, slowly but surely.

His name is Daddeo (sometimes spelled Daddyo), and he is a big part of the Tron 2.0 community. He developed a desktop device called Tronlink, which does for Tron 2.0 what XFire does for every other game. It pings servers, shows who is in them, lets you chat with other Tron players and schedule games. Every 2.0 player has it installed and it comes in handy when you're looking to play a few rounds and don't want to boot the game up just to find out that no one is playing. The website for it is www.tronlink.net .

I'm sure more will follow in time, and I can't wait to see what kind of things get implemented into the game once both camps collaborate.

Some people have nice Server Browsers online such as:They're all based off of this.

Sounds like maybe he and I should get together. I've recently begun trying to migrate Armagetron to using XMPP for authentication and eventually server browsing, so people can use any standards-compliant IM program to chat and check on servers. Extra help would be welcome. :)

I noticed that he just created an account here.

Hey guys, just found this topic. I'm looking at the XMPP to see how much it involves. Would like to help. See you on the grid!
