Major problem running AD properly

Post by narutofan|gz »

I have a rather older computer (p3,650mHz, 256 RAM) with both Windows 98se and Windows Xp installed. I can run Armagetron with an average of 40 FPS on Windows 98 with full quality(detail) settings. But when I try it on Windows Xp I get LESS THAN 10 FPS WITH ALL DETAIL SETTING OFF. What can I do to make it run on Xp just as good as windows 98?

P.S. I already tried whipeing my hard drive clean and reinstalling both versions of winodws, and I see no differance

Windows XP doesn't come with decent OpenGL drivers, so you get a software renderer. See if installing driver from your GPU's manufacturer improves things.

Could you attach the file user.cfg form Windows XP here? It should be somewhere in [Windows XP installation drive]:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\Armagetron , and you need to either paste the contents into your post text or change the extension to something like .not.zip in order for the forum to accept it.

Well, while that chip delivers low performance in general, there is no technical reason why it should perform so much better in win98 than in XP.

omg I figured it out. Intel has a OLDER version of the driver for my graphics controller than I currently have installed my my computer, and the OLDER version is the only one compatiable with windows Xp. now it's working fine in Windows Xp. go figure!
