I need a home theater

Post by skullflame »

My house that I am currently living in just sold today so when we move into our new house my mother and i decided to buy a home theater system.

I have done some research on my own and i have found one that i like by Logitech (big surprise :) ). However i called my uncle and he said that he like Pioneer himself but did not give a example. So here is the link to the system that i like, and please give suggestions or comments, or just general insults  .

I would call that a bunch of speakers, not a home theater system. Where's the screen? Where's the popcorn machine?

Mmm, popcorn.

There is a secret: you can buy ordinary (unpopped) popcorn, put it into a regular paper bag, and put that into the microwave.

That secret is from a cartoon, so maybe it doesn't work and blows up your microwave instead :) Be sure to seal the paper bag well and don't put too much popcorn into it.

Popping pop corn? No time! Just chew on the kernels.

There is little that beat a pound of un-popped kernel, a whole stick of butter and some rock salt. Take a handfull of kernel, stuff in your mouth, dip the butter stick in the rock salt and then take a bite from it.

You guys are sick. Really sick.

Man, my older son used to sneak into the fridge and take big bites out of cheese and butter. It's amazing he hasn't clogged up all his arteries yet. (we got him to stop biting the cheese when we showed him how it meant we couldn't eat certain other meals that he loves, but he still tries to get the butter)

I can understand the cheese thing (though there are obviously better approaches to eating a piece of it, usually involving the use of a knife). But butter? That stuff doesn't even taste like anything!

I used to eat butter when I was a kid. I would eat it by the spoonful when my parents weren't looking. I think it's a kid thing, cause no way I could do that now. I was allergic to cheese as a child though, so I'm not sure if I would have taken to that as well.

OT: If you're looking to buy a home theatre try doing some online research. My did a whole bunch for his HD plasma TV and he ended up buying a Panasonic. As for surround sound, Bose is good if you want to fork out the cash, also LG (also kinda pricey) and pioneer are good audio systems. I don't know nearly as much about the audio side, because we still use a Kenwood system from like 1985. It has amazing sound, but takes up way too much room. :D If I can remember the website I used to get my research from I'll post it.
I'm not sure I would/could chose Logitech for a home theatre system (unless you're going to hook it up to your computer)

I don't understand eating just butter. Butter with sugar or butter with flour is ok to snack on if you happen to be making something that has that combination. But otherwise, damn.

z5500 would be what I would buy; don't get the wireless ones (like z5400 or something) sound quality is not so good. z5500 come with plenty of cableing.
I was too close to getting them myself. NOTE: that sub is f***ing massive; bare in mind you have to keep it like 2 ft away from anything else because of the magnetic field; & it DOES have the power to break windows.
If you want something that is this loud then go for it; otherwise save some money & get a lower wattage system.......your volume with these will never even be used above 50%

maybe this wasn't the best place to ask such a question anyways ^^
check out reviews on amazon etc....
hf & make sure you got the space!

well it will really never go over 75% cuzz they are 75 watt channels and my stereo that i will be using has 100 watts per channel.

on a side note the sub may be massive but at a peak power of around 500 watts its not the best around, i've seen pretty good ones up at best buy that are the same size (10 in.) with over 1000 watts peak power for only 100 USD.

i am moving into a condo so i really hope i dont have old people living next door. But i am on a end unit so there is only one shared wall.

THat's the worst math ever, I think. What you've basically said is that the speakers are 75 watts and the stereo is 100 watts, which means the stereo will very easily overdrive the speakers. It will wear out the speakers fast, if you don't blow them doing something stupid. And just remember, even if you can't hear distortion, doesn't mean you're not putting too much power into the speakers!

Said differently: pick better speakers. When you don't know what you're doing, then you need to match the power per channel on the amp with the speakers. Exactly. So get 100 watt speakers.
