Everybody, please take it easy a bit. Code Hunter made an attempt to disarm the situation, let him continue in grace.
Code Hunter, you stumbled on a VERY close at hearth issue here. Irrelevantly if the modified code is your own creation or something taken from the forum or anywhere else, I think it would be a good thing if you made it available on your web site. As to taking down the bin, that might be the wrong thing to do. I'm guessing there is quite a demand out there for a patched windows binary, so you'd be doing the community a service by keeping it available.
Actually, if you made available windows binaries for nearly every patch and hack around (providing you avoid previous blunders of course), you would help us a LOT. A STY patched dedicated server alone would save quite a few hair pulling session of no-it-is-not-assumed-that-your-os-is-window and yes-compiling-can-be-a-tricky-operation-the-first-time-around and a-patch-is-a-file-storing-all-the-difference-between-o-just-forget-that-its-a-magic-file.

Re: change this
It is a big deal. You can try to play it off all you want, but copyright and how it affects the flow of information is very important. You still haven't given up the source for the binary you're distributing, and I'm not changing the notice on the wiki until I see it.Code hunter wrote:http://wiki.armagetronad.net/

You don't come partially to compliance with the license and expect forgiveness. You must come completely into compliance with the license.

Re: change this
As far as I can see, you're still not offering the source. I personally would be happy with "It's a build of AA version <bla> (with link) with this code patch (with link) applied".
You are right in that this is not something to curse you and your family for seven generation to come (once the outstanding issue with the source is fixed), but:

Hey zman, sorry about this mate. But i just posted what i found. I did not make that code, and i never said i did. I did not create that copyright either. This was made long ago by a tronner named "Gonzo" and "AlIaS"
I didnt know it was a hack. My clan did not make it, we just want to help people enjoy the game more. I will take this off of our clan site. Sorry for the trouble.

You need to straighten out your story. Previously you said your clan did make it, and used that fact to claim copyright over it. Now you say you just found this binary somewhere, don't know where?
What part of your story is true, and what part of it is lies?

as best as i can tell the mod is clean. but then again who knows. nice goingz-man wrote:No need to apologize to me if that last post contains the truth; apologize to those who downloaded it believing it came from you. Because if you just found it, how do you know it doesn't contain any malicious code?
Heh, this seemed the best place to post this link for anybody living in a cave who hasn't heard about it yet.

and yet look what they have on their website (http://www.sco.com/company/profile.html): SCO owns the core UNIX operating system, originally developed by AT&T/Bell Labs and is the exclusive licensor to Unix-based system software providers.
