The texture should be placed inside the application bundle. Right-/ctrl-click on Armagetron Advanced.app and choose Show Package Contents or the equivalent in your language. In the window that appears, go to Contents/Resources. There are the files that the game actually uses. Modifications don't affect other clients.
That was my fear. So I have to give a new (modified) Application to everybody. Thanks for the info!
Two new questions:
- Is there a list somewhere on the net with all possible console commands?
- Can I bind commands. e.g. Configure a key that triggers 2 left turns right after each other (to make sharper turns)?
EDIT: It didnt work at the beginning. The double-binded turns were as big (or small) as the double pressed single-binded turns.
But then I typed into the console: CYCLE_DELAY 0.05 and it works awesome!
just install the resources on their computer and change a few settings
Can you specify this a bit?
Do I copy the files into their Library -> App. Support -> textures folder?
What settings do I have to change exactly?
Thanks, Jan
BTW: Another question that pops into my mind. I have played modes like "Capture The Flag" and "Fox" (?) online. It was fun. Can I play those modes when I set up a LAN server? Or does this only work with "Dedicated Servers"?
I think he means just placing the files in each game folder and perhaps changing the moviepack setting. At least I don't think we have textures as resources (as in the resource repository) yet. The problem with the Mac is that textures are stored inside the somewhat inaccessible application bundle (it is a folder containing the program and related data, but it looks like a file in the GUI).
Edit: those game types could work on a "client server" if it's recent enough and with the right configuration for them.
Textures in my App-Bundle is fine for me. It may be even easier to just exchange the App than add textures and activate them on 10 different computers.
If you have more info about how to set up "Capture The Flag" on a Client Server, please post it.
Oups! I missed the part where you where talking about mac binaries. I'm a bit mac-clueless. Listen to Jonathan. The App bundle, now that you described it, sound like a much easier thing to do, and you seem to know what you are talking about, so go for it. ;)
IIRC, the "capture the flag" is actually
a) special maps (and acompaning dtd I'd guess) describing the flag and the home base. They should be saved on your computer when you play on that server.
b) the binary that will act as a server, irrelevantly of if it is a dedicated or a client, needs to be patched to support the additional logic. The mod is named STY. You will need to search for it on the forum. It might be a PITA to apply, as your search hits will reveal. You MIGHT find information somewhere on the wiki to help you through the process.
I might be wrong about either/both of these.
