Ever thought about longer names?

Post by Aang (avatar fan) »

In the game, i want to rename to something, but it won't let me have a long name, it will only let me have so many characters, and thats not enough for me.

Can we increase the name length by 5-10 characters.

I have a friend that joined a clan, so the clan tag made his name to long that he couldn't fit his trademark on the end. Shame.

Please can we at least try this, if not why?

What, would his name come out looking something silly like:
~~<.bTr.>~~JOE 733+5@x0r|\/|@|\|

People's names are being devoured by tags these days.

I do see your point though. Also, color codes take up a lot of space. More character room would be a help for those people who use them.

Well, you can have longer names, but you have to buy my name enlargement tool, for $200 USD.

Lol Lucifer
why does it cost that much?

No his name would not come out looking like that. it is just a plain color coded name VaderVC, but he cant fit the VC on anymore :(

It costs that much because that's how much it will cost to finish outfitting me and my kid for fencing. :)

Erm, how large is the clan tag that VaderVC doesn't fit behind it without exceeding the 15 character limit? (Note to nitpickers, I know, 7 or 8 characters, but seriously, WTH?)

Think about all the places your name is displayed and you know what I think about allowing longer names by default. We've already talked about making the name length configurable (and custang, also abut different metrics for color codes), and that's doable, but it will be server admin determined, so you can't be sure everyone sees your full name anyhow.

If you want your full name to appear in chat, you can configure an instanchat like those annoying "write in color all the time" guys are doing, only instead of a color code, you put in your full name. Your chat will then read

Code: Select all

Aang: (Anang, fan of avatar the last airbender) <whatever you want to say>
. Not that that won't be annoying as well.

Good idea. His clan tag is 5 characters. And i can't thing of any place that would complain about a 20 character name.

Well, do visit our IRC channel with a 20 character name some time and see what happens.

IRC ...... you can have more then 15 right??

i dont really mind about the colour (color) codes, but it does get annoying when you dont wanna go look at the hex chart for a colour (color) so you have a guess and get those white backgrounds.

All about IRC (follow the links there):
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/IRC_Channel
It may be network dependant, but I observed a 16 character limit in place.
