Heh. This thread goes on the list of threads I quit posting to because I checked new posts, then left for some reason, and when I came back it didn't appear anymore. It would be nice of these forums had a way to mark a thread as "I want to post later, too busy right now".
Anyway, there's another scenario unmentioned that I find myself in a fair amount. I'm in the first wave of offensive players, and I die early in the round. But in going in, I manage to disrupt the defense and take out a few players. So the second wave goes in right over my corpse and has an easier time, they're going against a disrupted defense. They just need to create a little more chaos and finish the job. So, how do I get rewarded? My personal reward isn't necessary in terms of the match, this is a measurement that would be taken (if it can be taken) only for the ladder.
The thread that got madmax to bump this got me thinking some more about measuring just a player by himself. There are a few players who aren't terribly good directly, but when put in a team environment do a lot better. I think I'm one of those players, but it could just be that I derive more satisfaction in a team game than I do in a non-team game. So how would you aggregate ladders from different servers, where some are team servers and others aren't? I ask because I have a suspicion that answer would give some clue to figuring out how to take the individual measurements in the first place.
