win the 8th tronic ladle from speeders
sunday 4th february
with finals as always at 9pm UTC/GMT
i have changed the challenge board
to include the servers
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php/ ... enge_Board
i hope this clears things up
if there are four teams or less
then the quarter finals round will be passed
and we go straight into the semifinal round at 8.15pm UTC/GMT
team captains should make it clear to players
who where and when they are playing
remember
this only works if people work co-operatively
and prepare before the evening
also
can we have more consideration for server admin --
their presence is entirely voluntary
and they should be allowed the opportunity to play in the tournament too
with finals as always at 9pm UTC/GMT

See here for that error message.
Gratz, well played. I'll make the logs available later. No recording this time, it seems to be useless anyway.
BUT: When TuI entered my server, they had the manners of a bunch of saylors on shore leave. Well, actually it mostly were KUSH and the guy with the name I can't repeat here, but since you anonymized your names again, that bad behavior falls back to you all. It was the first time I had to disalbe kick votes. I'll make sure that next time, I'll also be able to turn of public chat and cross-team /msgs. Gratz also for getting the parents of a server moderating feature.

This time, I removed the private chat (including team chat) after scanning it myself. Apart from the already mentioned misbehavior of the unspeakable TuI member, it didn't contain anything you need to know.
Speaking of which, could we stop this silly name changing? It was fun the first time around, but you overestimate the strategic log term value.

About that TuI member, well, that whole day was a bad one for him. His cousins were coming into town and they were going to go fishing, but then it rained on them and they couldn't do that. Since it rained, he was happy, becuase then the cousins weren't going to come to his house to visit him, so he could play in the ladle. But, the cousins unexpectedly showed up and he had to leave and couldn't play in the first round of the ladle. When he got back, he came just in time for the finals of the ladle. He was super upset that the ~*SP*~ players didn't allow him to play. If you remember, it was 6 on 8 in the ladle 7 finals and we didn't ask them to cut down the teams to make it even. It was 9 on 8 (before we officially started) and since he was the last to join, he was the odd man out. He didn't like this and started spamming messages to the other team (particularly their defender). This is exactly what ~*SP*~ had done to the |x| defender (Rico) in ladle 7. It was "payback."
However, I do take responsibility for this member's actions. As for the rest of us, I think we were just fine.

About the balancing: The book of rules says anything below 8 players is your problem. If you want to change that, discuss and put the result up on the Wiki; I personally wouldn't mind lowering the limit to encourage smaller teams to take part.
That's a mighty strange definition of a bad day, and of course no excuse.
About "payback": punishment for misbehavior is not for individual players to decide, not during a match, anyway. Besides, I couldn't find anything in last ladle's logs supporting the accusations, at least not at a scale that would justify the response. The logs of that are still public, so I'm willing to revert my opinion on that, but regardless, the ladle and any other tournament is no place for silly feuds.
The same I said about the 8 player rule applies here: if you (the players) get to a consensus, I'll stick to that. For example, we could make it a recommendation that all players silence all players of the other team in the menu before the game starts; the team leaders can be an exception as they can be expected to behave. If you're then distracted by enemy chat, it's defined as your own problem.
Joe: Yeah, the game doesn't matter much in the big picture of the universe, but the PEOPLE that play it matter. You should treat them with the same respect you want yourself to be treated with.
Different subject: With the consensus of the competing teams, I had the winzone delayed to appear no earlier than six minutes after round start. IIRC, that never happened, and nobody complained and nobody tried to wait those six minutes out. Shall we adopt this setting as standard for future ladles?

Where's the approving nod smiley when you need it? My personal concern is just that I don't want to see it happen again. Let your team know that I'll use the kick button more rapidly in those situations. Chat is not to be used as a weapon.DDMJ wrote:However, I do take responsibility for this member's actions.
