You got it right: the one referenced as .bin package is the one for you. It's actually an .autopackage.

I think it should work both ways. But to be sure and to see error messages, use the terminal. If it doesn't work, try the -t command line option. In total, the best way to call it may be

sh ./armagetronad-<stuff>.package -t
