Stupid Switch
No, I'm not talking about a little button on my head that turns me into a dumbass (thats a different story). I refer to my network switch, that blew up last week. You see, I started 4 weeks of holidays last week, which was great - I could finally afford time to play lots of armagetron, and work on my website, and all the other cool things I could do with my free time that I couldn't do before, and my switch blew up. That switch was my lifeline to the outside world, because it provided my only possible link to my neighbours gigabit lan and ADSL. So now my net connectivity is extremely limited till I get a new switch, and that wont be till guess when? aboiut four weeks into the future! when I am no longer on hols! and wont have the free time to do all those fun things! and 2.7.0 is out! WAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

No, I can go to the local pc store and buy a switch. YES. but the prices are astronomical. My old switch (8 port 10/100) cost $30 at a market, it was the cheapest price I could get ANYWHERE 6 months ago, and in store I'm looking at a hundred. I don't have $30 to spare. Hell, I don't have $10 to spare. Availability is not the problem. the cash is the problem.
Oh and PS.... I COULD live in antarctica - its an Australian Territory. I know of a guy who does - he lives on the CSIRO research station... (along with the other three residents of the continent)
and 1209 miles? dont know the figures, but their are people in OZ where something like that is the case

You got it right subby
I've stuck the ethernet into one of my pc's. Trouble is My set up was reliant on my two pcs being interconnected (I dl on one, work on the other, and have a print server - they can't be connected without my switch, and the one that is in linux is in a bad possition for the incoming ethernet. I just gotta think about rearranging the study I think.so I need to wipe one pc and put all the stuff I want to have access to the net with on one machine. I'm just a lazy bugger
I'll have to get a switch anyway. But for now, I think I can cope
