NetHack

Post by n54 »

oki so sometimes one needs speed and sometimes one needs the opposite...

the first computergame i ever played was rogue and it won my heart, last year i found a version of the original to play once in a while on my pc

and now i've found nethack and i'm probably the last person in the world to do that

just wanted to say that yes i too have now started playing nethack :D

i prefer the tileset version (wondering about making my own tiles), haven't tried the 32x32 tileset yet

some laughs already; like renaming your kitten/dog Uranus *You have displaced Uranus* (yes it is true i am 29 but don't hold it against me lol)

go try it! :D

nethack is yet another variation of the original game "rogue" by epyx, circa early 80's.

my personal favorite interpretation is the angband series, the theme based on tolkien. (good timing, eh?):

within angband there are many variants (it's open-source). out of these the one i like the best is T.O.M.E. (tales of middle-earth) because of it's depth of magic/skills/scenerios.

there's also a slick 3-D version of one of the versions... it may be nethack, come to think of it. i can look further if you like.

yeah i've seen quite a lot of rogue-clones but didn't get that nethack was one too, nethack has really expanded the game though (making it even harder?)

anyway your link looked nice :)

DISCLAIMER: i will not be held responsible for people starting to play nethack, they do so on their own free will. if you have a fulfilling life/girlfriend/boyfriend/family/school/work/active lifestyle/rewarding hobbies etc pls do reconsider if you choose to play
locutus wondered about links to nethack and for his and anyone's else benefit (muahahaha benefit?) i post them here with an appropriate quote as well.

http://www.nethack.org/index.html <-- the official site with the original binaries/source. might not look much (i use their windows tile version 16x16)

http://www.gadgetopia.com/2003/09/26/Nethack.html <-- article with links to two more graphically advanced versions and more quotes

searching for nethack on google ususally gives you a ton of results (nethack + spoilers is good for reducing deaths)

nethack is also known as the most evil game ever
