KDE can do it every 5 minutes (note: I'm aware it allows one minute)? In Mac OS X you can choose 5 SECONDS in the standard GUI if you're one of those who likes pointlessly hogging his system.
Edit: I currently use a photo showing some serious light pollution caused by greenhouses. Not that it's pretty, but it took some effort to capture it properly. I think posting it is inappropriate because I took it from a location that's easily pinpointed if the environment is known. Or is it just me thinking it could lead to trouble?

indeed, I think the lowest interval in the stock script is 1 minute, but when I tried it, it was every minute I got a huge hit as kdesktop loaded a new graphic. I use a generated graphic now that for some reason doesn't feel like such a hit, even though I've got it slightly different on each of 4 desktops.
And of course you can write your own script if you really want.

Attempting to bypass it shouldn't be forbidden if you bypass it to access stuff you fell you shouldn't be blocked from. I did that all the time while I was in Canada (server at home w/ sshd running on port 443, use putty to connect to that server over the proxy which will think it's HTTPS traffic, then portforward all you like or even use dynamic port forwarding).
Actually I think about .5 of the time I spent on these school computers I spent making them usuable for me and getting around really stupid restrictions (why don't they allow me to adjust my mouse speed?!). Oh well, I still got good grades and I know how to hide what I'm doing, and what people I have to hide it from and what people can't tell what I'm doing anyways.

technically that rule is not in our rule book or in our computer lab contracts(which i had to sign 2 of them). I don't care too much about the web restrictions i usually can get to all i want to by using https or goggle cashed.
the machine that is from sucks. 256MB of ram; it starts lagging with the software they have. I'm trying to get a Linux live CD that will work on it. I tries SLAX but it would not load any GUI. Also my program i made doesn't work on those. I had it figured out though. I had 1 computer so that it completely bypasses all the restriction but it would be too easy to track those changes. I hate those though i spent 45 minutes installing eclipse. heh i had to misuse the guest account to do that(did not sign for that rule either).

kile... so what, you in prison or something?
I mean, we had restrictions, but if you did anything you just said: Eh, it wasn't me it was some guy who just came here for 2 secs and then left..
Then they'd ask: Who?
Then you say: Eh, I'm not gonna tell on him I'm no traitor (only a Dutch war-term for the traitor word
)
Then they say: Damn.
Problem fixed...

ummmm yaa we all have usernames and passwords to get into the computer
it is all logged and sent to the admin. there is no way around the username and password thing that i can get too work(and guest account which i don't want them to change that P/W). We used to have workstation only on the log in. if i had that i would be fine. now that it is disabled. if the schools server crashes then we cannot even use the computers. all the computer names are set by room number and computer number also school initials. they can turn on the computers at any time or take control of them. we have no access to the hard drive, no command prompt, no right clicking on the desktop/file system/internet Explorer. no access to the registry(sept my program with low compatibility). all i can say is the i hate Novell ZENworks. although the program could be nice and let you actually use the computer and save your data to our account. but under the restrictions we have it is like a JAIL.

KDE is very nice. Requires some form of Unix though. Linux is fine. I'm using the latest Mandriva right now and am very pleased with it.skullflame69 wrote:umm is kde free? its sound nice

KDE is free?</sarcasm>
My experience with people who don't know what I'm doing is that they seem to expect the worst. Fortunately I'm no longer in a position where it really matters since 3.5 years ago.wrtlprnft wrote:Oh well, I still got good grades and I know how to hide what I'm doing, and what people I have to hide it from and what people can't tell what I'm doing anyways.

Look a little further and you can use your web browser to download it. I'll try to dig up a more direct link in a bit, gotta study right now, sorry.

Heh. I got the part I wanted out of the nebula.
Actually, the pic I dug up (rather, stumbled across on the badastronomy website), I was able to crop this portion out without having to scale it. The rest of the picture is large, even on my screen, and if I tried to scale it to avatar-size, I'd lose too much to be worth it. I'll post a link if I stumble across it again, though. It is a nice picture.
