Hi, I'm new to these forums and this game. I belong to a website where we converse in IRC alot and I have been getting alot of the people in IRC into this game. So I was thinking about organizing a tournament. If any of you have any ideas on how to do this they would be appreciated because I don't know where to start. I'm guessing around 30-50 people would be involved in this just to give you a rough idea. I was thinkign about writing a website form but don't know all that much about php.
The website in question is totse.com which has one of the largest collections of weird text files. Including alot of nasty ones with instructions on how to build bombs and drugs and stuff. And yes it is one of the first results from google for how to build a bomb. The idea of the website is freedom of speech and quotes the first ammendment on the home page. Just so people don't ask or get all pisssed at me for being part of that website.
Like I said any ideas would be of help. Thanks in advance.
Tournament help.

First, I think you should read up on the previous tournaments held:

Most were fortress tournaments, you seem to have a single player tournament in mind. You should tell us the game mode you're intending to use, the rest of the hints we can give depends on that.

I was thinking if done 1 on 1 that the people could organize a time for themselves in IRC. And they would have to work out timezones and all that jazz.Tank Program wrote:One of the biggest challanges in my mind is organizing across timezones, so it's probably something to watch out for.
I'm leaning more towards a 3 person every man for himself match. 1 point for coming in last 2 for coming in second and 3 for first. Type deal. thanks again.
Hmm, sounds interesting. What are you going to do with the points? Will you make it a league where you play as many combinations of matches as you can and then sum them up?
About the timezones: don't overestimate people's ability to cope with them. The best thing, I think, that has proven to work around here, is to let them make all time discussions in GMT. Give them some web clock that shows them the current GMT time, for example http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/ .
