screen freeze: blew my video card

Post by cetialpha »

Hey. I was playing in Swampland last night and the screen froze, which has happened to me several times before, but this time my computer just shut down completely. Then I started to smell smoke. Not a good feeling to say the least.

I took the computer to a service shop and the guy there told me it looks like an issue with the video card (156 card).

Anyway, when this freezing happened to me before I would just reboot the computer. However, and I don't know if this had anything to do with what happened, but I pressed control/alt/del in an attempt to try and end the process.

I have to wait a couple days to get the computer back from the shop to really know what went on my computer, but now I'm afraid to play it again incase it happens again.

Is there an update that has worked out that particular bug in the program available?

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I'm totally addicted to tron now. hehe.

Thanks.

Ceti.

sounds to me like it overheated; it must have been your video card this could have been because its fan stopped working on it or else put more fans in your computer

This is definitely not caused by Armagetron. It's an external system that it uses that doesn't work properly.

Thanks guys.

I think my computer desk was smothering my computer, not allowing enough airflow for the computer. Ugh. :| The stupid thing is I knew this was a problem and didn't do anything about it. Oh well, live and learn. I'll have a new and better videocard in a day or so. :D Unless there's something else wrong with my computer. eek. But it definitely sounds like the videocard. At least that's the impression I'm getting from people I ask.

Thanks again.

Yeah, my only other worry is that it could possibly be harddrive failure.

double eeeek.

Well, I finally got my computer back. It ended being that my power supply blew. A simple fix. Phew. hehe.

Thanks for the replies though.

Peace out.
