this is one of the best games out there
without a doubt
and yet
we don't have enough players
although this isn't a proper company or anything
i don't see why we can't get this thing moving
take a look at
http://introversion.co.uk/roadmap.html
and how the game developed
and notice that it was some reports which made the game go big
also
http://forums.introversion.co.uk/introversion/
specifically take a look at the defcon forum
which has a competition already on even though the game is a month old
armagetron is great as a single player game
but even better with teamwork
can we stop complaining about things
and get some regular games organised?
rain has inspired me with his reworking of the tronic idea
and i think it is possible
it just comes down to players turning up on time
that's it
so...
here is my suggestion:
sign up for some kind of development team
it doesn't matter what your skills are
what is important is that you are a teamplayer
and you are enthusiastic about this game
all we need to do
like in all team games
is how to play together
i think this game deserves it
i think the developers deserve it
and i think the players do too
for the time they put in and their amazing skills
anybody out there hearing this?
come on guys...

Are you trying to compare Introversion to us? They are an actual company. The reason why they got "people in one month WOWEEE!" is because they signed on with Valve to released their games through steam. Which is where the most played multiplayer game, Counter Strike v1.6 is housed Not to mention The game has been advertised for months prior before its release. (I preordered it 3 weeks before it was released on steam) So they easily get people to play it. Not to mention Introversion has won awards for their game(s). Which also would probably not have been recognized had it not been for steam. Again,

Its pretty easy to step things up when you are PAYED to do so.

Plus, the site and the user and post count are for all of the forum going back three years to the release of Uplink.
Another difference is the realease cycle. If you sell your game for money, you just develop it away from public view, make a release plan with a release date and schedule advertising and everything to that date. We're doing continuous development, which is required to get other developers interested. Things just don't transfer that easily, you can't generate that much hype, because the most important ingredient of hype is that the hyped thing is not available yet
And remember, we're doing this here for our own enjoiment. While of course some interest and a living community is good for that as it keeps us motivated because we see other people like what we do, there is such a thing as too much interest. More players and servers means there would be more support work to do and more feature requests to reject, and that's considerably less fun than coding. If your payment is not money, then it makes perfect sense to stay small.

to give something back
for the hours of enjoyment i derive from it
so it seems to mez-man wrote:...you can't generate that much hype, because the most important ingredient of hype is that the hyped thing is not available yet
we need an alternative approach
which is what i am requesting of players...
i can't sayz-man wrote:More players and servers means there would be more support work to do and more feature requests to reject, and that's considerably less fun than coding.
though i think the game as it is
stands up pretty well
not necessarilyz-man wrote:If your payment is not money, then it makes perfect sense to stay small.
i am not doing it for the money either
i would like to have more players
so we can have even better quality matches
and also
i like the idea of experimenting with self-organising systems
though the practice can be a little wearisome
if you object specifically to my calls for action2020 wrote:all we need to do

i don't want to spoil your plans

WHY ISN'T ANY ONE PLAYING THIS BECAUSE ITS AMAZING AND THEY SHOULD!! HURR!!! Just because you like it doesn't necessarily mean that the world HAS to like it just as much.
This game stands by itself...for us. But as for the average human being who just so happen to stumble upon this game while google searching "horses jumping" or "bike" with safe search turned off, this game doesn't so much stand by itself as it does linger on the computer for about 4 weeks and is then deleted.
The game is fun... for us. I've tried getting people to start playing this. They play it for the night. Get a kick out of it and then never play again. OR they play a couple rounds, liked it , delete it and then download it again to play it as a inbetween game durring lan parties and other weird pc events. Personaly I think this is a great game to play while studying, because there isn't much commitment needed and rounds roughly last 45 seconds and thats all I would need to unwind and get back to studying. This game doesn't really have much to it. Just because you like it doesn't necessarily mean that the world HAS to like it just as much.
I for one enjoy having a little itty bitty community and no sense in badgering the developers to "step things up" seeing as this game is made by people at their leisure and (I assume) really don't want to devote their life to this game.
EDIT: Fixed some of my crappy spelling.
