Respect in Tron?

Post by Canada »

I was playing in the LOD Fortress about 15 minutes ago and realized that some people think that you have to be one of the best to play tron.
while im not near the best at tron, nor anything close, dont i deserve the same respect as someone who plays tron 6+ hours a day?

Chat.Bot: Kick Canada hes a idiot
Chat.Bot: kick now
~{GP}~ Canada: Why do you want to kick me?
(i get coredumped by defense)
~{GP}~ Canada: Just cause i dont spend 10% of my life playing tron means i cant have fun?
~{GP}~ Canada: I play tron to have fun, not to brag and say you suck, im better than you
You CoreDump Chat.Bot! Boo.. not points for that.
~{GP}~ Canada: Oops sorry, accident
|AST| AleX: canada u idiot
|AST| AleX: kick now

November 12 2006 (2:15 Pm)
i was kicked from Super Ducks Nano fortress just about 15 minutes ago, too.

*WhatUp*: u suck balls canada
>S3D|~Canada: You suck cows
*WhatUp*: your a idiot
*WhatUp*: Do you know how to grind
>S3D|~Canada: do you have amneisia
*WhatUP* coredumps >S3D|~Canada! Boo! No points for that
>S3D|~Canada: This means war!
We start Tking eachother for about 3 rounds...
>S3D|~Canada leaves the game.
You have been chased by a angry mob, please do not come back.

now i know i was kind of joking around there but the only reason i wasnt grinding was because he was trying to Tk me.... this is my fault? oh and by the way, i wasnt sucking at all this time around... infact i was ddoing pretty well but for some reason WhatUp had a nurve for something i was doing.

*I have decided to post a new scenario everytime i get yelled at and usually when i get kicked, be happy to post things that have happened to you.*

I don't think you have to be the best at tron to play. I just think you need to make an effort to improve you skills. I'll admit i make quite a few polls in the game. I make polls for those who continually do not attempt to grind or they TK or don't STFU(in extream cases of that or chatboxes). For anything like this i give them warnings way ahead. I personally think Kicking non grinders help them improve. I got kicked In CTW Fortress when i was a beginner, i ended up learning the concept fas because of that. I don't know you situation but i can say i have been kicked for stupid things too. 1 thing i did lately was antecedently TK the 1/2 the team and got kicked now is there really a reason for people to poll every time someone makes a mistake? NO but it still happens. i do know LOD's sever is very skill picky or something you may consider reading this topic. http://www.buio.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=105

Well, let's be realistic. You went to LoD and wanted respect, shame on you. Try some other servers, there are good people that play this game.

Lucifer is absolutely right. Some servers just attract some incredibly rude, scummy people. I've gone to plenty of servers where its nothing but fun people. I Suggest you try and go to a server that does not involve clans. You're more than likely going to have a great time that way.

PS I want to feed your avatar canada :d

Yea, clans like XZL and CT and those damned LM. :D

But in all seriousness, an odd enough rule is to stick to servers that tend to be empty or only a few people most of the time. They usually have the best players in them. Just like misery, Trolls love company.

There are some good clans out there, but even the best still have smegheads among them, enough so that the clan tag still can't automatically recommend a player to you (which kinda defeats the purpose of the clan, if you ask me). The thing about clans is that it seems like for every good clan, there's 4 really bad clans that we'd just as soon not have to deal with. Bad clans build bad clan servers, of course. I've only so far seen one and only one clan server to attract a lot of general attention, and if you don't suck like I suck, you might enjoy the CT server. :)

For team games, the team pickings are pretty slim right now. Most of it is that the community doesn't seem to have fully adjusted to losing the bugfarm servers. At least they've mostly quit whining about it, and there are some efforts to try to deal with it.

The single player servers I've always found consistently had fun, respectful, and polite players are Swampland, Shrunkland, and the Lobster Cage. (notice that these are servers that are still running, there have been lots of good servers over the years that aren't running anymore) Tank's Tigers Network servers usually do well, also. The rest, well, Fonkay suggests servers with fewer players but that's contrary to my own experience. We'll leave it at that, and you can tell us what you experience. :)

hi
canada
and welcome
:D

join the tronic monkeys!

it is a team
not a clan
and the idea is to have a mix of players
both experienced and non-experienced

the advice to find nicer servers is a good idea
and they are suggesting you avoid team-games

the difficulty with eg lod
is that it is a fortress server which is a teamgame
and as you know
when you join any teamgame anywhere on the world
you accept the responsibility of that team's performance
and hence
if you don't pull your weight
other teammates may get irritated

hence
my solution is not to find another server
but to find good teammates

i have played with plenty of good teammates
patient
instructional
and inspirational in their play
and they don't go bragging about it either

forget the butt-nuts

stick at it
the fortress style server
provides one of the best gaming environments anywhere
which might give you an understanding of why players devote 10% of their lives to it
hold the line

canada:

1. you spelt my name wrong.

2. the reason why we polled to kick you is because we asked you to grind tighter as attackers were coming through the middle. you didnt.

3. the poll was rejected, which was fair enough i guess

4. 5 mins later, he went into bot mode and therefore non grinding and tking, which was when the conversation he posted above was written, he was then polled and kicked

5. personally, i think thats a fair enough explanation as to why you got no respect last night.

6. no, you dont need play tron 6 hours a day to gain respect, but all you needed to do was TELL US you were going into botmode so we could "prepare for it" [so to speak],and grind a little bit tighter when back out of botmode and all would have been ok.

"Canada you idiot" just begs for some type of reciprocal communication.

Sorry AleX if theres Confusion... i dont really want this to turn into a flame war, but i have the right to defend myself. first, why does it matter if i spelled your name wrong?
and second, when did i ever bot? (i might not be think streight as to it was halloween, i had to do my homework and all that.) but sorry if i didnt i just have no memory of turning my auto pilot on while i was doing something in real life, i usually disconnect when i leave the computer. maybe i just forgot to.
third, when we grinded in the beginning, before i could get any closer, my tron got in the front, if i were to turn in that would kill you and would make you make a kick poll immedietly (i dont care if you say i spelled that wrong, i really am not the best speller.)

Meriton's guide to efficient cooperation:

1) hit the chat-key
2) tell why you'd like something different and if the other person doesn't know how to make it happen, offer a suggestion.

Why is that better than barking orders?

1) Orders are hard to phrase clearly.
2) You permit the other guy to solve the problem differently. He knows his capabilities better than you do, after all.
3) The recipient knows you're not bossing him around for the joy of it.

You guys, all of you, me too, have to keep in mind there is a human at the other end of that ping you whine about. A person can have any number of reasons to get up from their keyboard that are perfectly legitimate. And I say leaving a bot in a team server is rude, but there are stil plenty of reasons for that sort of thing. You say it shouldn't happen, but here we go.

* Person is a cancer patient and has to puke because of the chemotherapy.
* Person's son just tripped and cut his head open, requires immediate first aid and assessment, may need to go to the emergency room. IF HE HAS TO GO to the emergency room, there is absolutely no good reason for the parent to come back and quit the game.

Here's a real situation I've actually seen back when bugfarm was CVS TEST. :) The guy spilled a drink on his keyboard, and in order to prevent destroying shit, he unplugged his keyboard. He was playing in full screen mode. So naturally he couldn't quit the game, he couldn't just shut off his computer (technically he could, but he had files open elsewhere he needed to save), and he couldn't plug his keyboard back in until it was clean. He was a bot for 2 hours.

So yeah, if you absolutely aren't willing to pay the price of playing with humans (i.e. being considerate and unselfish), play with bots and never play with humans.

SO when you have to kick somebody, calling them an idiot for being a bot might just be the pot calling the kettle black. Say something like "I'm sorry, but you've been a bot for 3 rounds and we need to kick you, please don't take it personally". Say something polite and considerate and open to the fact that you have no idea why the person has done what he has done, you have attempted to communicate with hiim, and all that.

Yes, there are people that need to be kicked with extreme prejudice. They're the exception, not the rule.

What, it took him 2 hours to find and unplug his network cable ;) ?

But I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment.

I usually dont like to talk about something I didnt see, but I saw that kyle linked a post I made in oops-clan.org. Well, the site isnt up now, but Im attaching the screenshot here, it should explain better than me what Im going to say. I'll stop to play in LoD servers soon even if I have to play alone or to not play fortress style, I'll not play the lod sumo tourney or the lod world cup.
Why?
Because of LoDs behaviour.
Expecially ady and dez.
Ady kept checking IP even if you made nothing wrong, just the beauty of monitor players and feel powerful, he kept kick as admin players for ridiculous reasons, last time I played in sumo he setted spam lenght to 0 so nobody was able to talk.
I can go on, but I think everybody knows what I am talking about.
So people, play in other servers.
You can feel free to play in 2020 server, in °°ps arena (where if you want I can set a sumo), there are a lot of good fortress servers.
Anyways take a look here: http://forums.armagetronad.net/viewtopic.php?t=9321
I hope the community will get a server soon.

greetings
