how do i save or back up my dedicated server settings

For things that have to do with those crazy test servers... and yeah. By request of z-man, and, of course, you gotta obey...

All the config files for dedicated server are stored in 2 files settings_dedicated.cfg and settings.cfg (pretty sure that's their names). Unless you have included more.
Anyway, just make copies of these files.

You shouldn't really modify settings_dedicated.cfg though, as you wil lose changes made up it when you upgrade if it's in the default path. Modify settings.cfg.

Follow settings_dedicated.cfg's advice:
settings_dedicated.cfg wrote:############################################################################################
#
# Do not modify this file! Instead, create two files in the same directory this file is in.
# settings_custom.cfg
# Actual gameplay settings
# server_info.cfg
# The server name, network setup, etc.
#
# You only need to put in these two files what is different from here. Also,
# settings_custom.cfg will override server_info.cfg
#

Keep your settings in the above-mentioned files.

And of course, instead of just entering your settings into the server while it is running, you should place them in the configuration files the others pointed you at.
