Asking for a ban

For things that have to do with those crazy test servers... and yeah. By request of z-man, and, of course, you gotta obey...

Asking for a ban

Post by Van-hayes »

Hey I was in CVS fortress a few minutes ago and when I entered someguy switched his name to mine and said i stole I stole MY name from him, usually dont mind people impostering me, just this guy started to TK everyone on team repeatedly. And since his name was exacyly like mine (no 2 or anything) people thought it was me. I thought you werent able to steal somone else's name? Dont have an IP only have what his name was Before: mr. kill _BLOOD_. I dont really mind the TKing just really bothers me that somone can use the exact same name.

If it was only this incident, I'd reject. It happened at the end of a server run before the restart where people are sometimes a bit funky. And he helped point out the flaw that player names with spaces at the end (He was "vanhayes ") cause trouble and should be filtered, and I don't ban people that help find bugs.

But he reconnected again at the next run under your name. So it's approved.

But actually, I did not directly ban him, but protected your name. Only users from your IP range can bear it now. The downside is that you'll be banned as well if you chage your ISP. Changes will be activated on the next reset.

Annoying troll

Post by junglehungry »

From about 15 minutes ago to about 5 minutes ago (that is about 18.35-18.45GMT on May 01 2006) there was an extremely annoying troll who kept changing his name to that of other players, and teamkilled half his team every round. It was difficult to kick him because nobody was sure whether it was the real player or not - he kept submitting polls for the real player at the same time. Can this idiot be IP blocked somehow?

There were several logins from this IP in the past, I guess it's static. He's banned for some weeks.

imposter on CVS and other servers

Post by [abc]~Coin~ »

This guy/gal has been around for the last few days. Imposters ppl by adding a space or using ~*SP~* tags instead of ~*SP*~ etc. He's learnt a new trick too, he goes specator mode on and changes his name ... mode off, poll for kick, mode on ... so he doesn't appear in the kick list.

I raised a BUG shout on CVS about 1/2 hour ago when he was on there ... not sure if that was the right thing to do but it was the only way I could think to get a record of it.

Sorry to be raising a problem for you z-man, but his behavior is v annoying.

I think you all have done a great job with the game, which I very much enjoy playing ... keep it up!

It was exactly right to shout bug. This is a new idiot, there must be a secret government lab where they breed them somewhere. Nobody from that IP subnet was active over the past month. It may also be an old idiot with a new ISP. It's hard to tell whether the IP will be dynamic or static. Please do notify me of further incidents of this kind so I know whether a range ban is required.

For clarification, when he enters spectator mode, there still is the "Kick (player who already left)" menu entry, right? If that gets approved, the kick should still work.

May have missed that - I will keep an eye out for it, but I don't remember seeing it in the poll list. We did manage to catch him as he was setting a poll and then he went spectator mode on, and the vote said "Kick (player who already left)" but if it was in the poll list then I missed it.

Thank you
