That make happend when i change detail options in display menu.
Change "SDL Open GL" to "ON"(propobly in Radeon's this options is not prefer (radeons "prefer" D3D)).
My PC: Sempron 2200, Radeon 9200, ASUS A7N8X-x, 512 RAM.

Does the other setting, "SDL OpenGL: Off" work for you?
Also, can you try setting it to "SDL OpenGL: On", then exiting and reentering the application instead of hitting "Apply"?
We don't "do" D3D, we only support OpenGL. This switch merely selects the method by which we access OpenGL, we have a clean and a dirty way.
