Just a heads up
got my server going, running 24 hours/day in London, United Kingdom
currently running The CLASSIC Submarine in Teams Mode
not 100% accurate clone of classic but close enough, players seem to be having a great time
would like to correct the settings to 100% if I get my hands on the original configs somewhere
high speed connection, pings seem solid
server is an old HP Compaq dc7700 workhorse from 2006, been running 24 hours a day for the last 7 years on windows xp but now running linux arma server
heres a pic, note the creative use of bubble wrap packaging to hold the hdd in place

Still better than my server. xD Although, I currently have my tron servers running on my Desktop, with much more power.
Re: The CLASSIC Submarine UK
My server used to be an Athlon64 single core 2.4ghz system with the front cover missing.

great to hear about other servers
old tech just seems to work better than new for sure, built to last

That seems to be true in general, but computers aren't really old enough to fall under that category. I think the oldest computer you're going to be running (a Linux server) with enough horsepower would be a late 90s/early 2000s Pentium 3 machine, a Powerpc G4, or maybe even one of those AMD K6es. By then, electronics were already cheapening.stephanietubesocks wrote:great to hear about other servers

My first "at home" Arma server was a thick ass Dell laptop from 2004. Worked great, but I ditched it two years ago when my girlfriend offered me her old Dell Hybrid D140G, which was smaller, more powerful, and a little more energy efficient. She was going to throw it out and I was like "put the brakes on babe..." It's a cute mini desktop computer I use as a server and NAS (running Ubuntu 16). The fan is a little louder than I would like, but it's basically the size of my modem, and you can't beat that unless you get a RasPI.

What size does that server measure, sinewav? The picture would suggest it's the same height as a keyboard with an unusually large margin and about half the width.
