Thats a little harsh to do to somebody for not getting the joke. Bonking him, that is. Always wear protection when bonking.

Can't get anything past you.

I tend not to have any icons or folders on my desktop, unless I'm in the middle of working on something (like a folder of the 26 versions of Fonkay's avatar I made, heh). I'm not currently, so there's nothing on it besides the desktop pic. I also have the dock set to hide, so even it doesn't show. But, here's a screenshot anyway of what's currently there, with the dock exposed. From left to right: Finder, Safari, Mail, AppleWorks, TextEdit, iTunes, Preview, Quicktime, Photoshop, APOD, AA Forums, Trash. Oh, and that's Meteorologist in the menubar.

EDIT: Ack, I shouldn't have posted a screenshot with that particular desktop picture. Removed. I would swap it out, but at the time of the original post I was using Jaguar on a G3 iMac. Presently I'm using Leopard on widescreen, different app collection in the dock.

Incidentally, the avatar(s) I refered to above wasn't the one she has now (animated T-Rex with top hat), if anyone was wondering.

With the dock, you don't need to in any case...

Actually, having lots of generic folder icons on the dock really annoys me. You have to mouse-over them just to see what the folder is. When its on the Desktop I can just look at its name.
