Yep—Search is basically useless [Jun 06, 2011].
I think switching to MySQL Fulltext in phpBB's settings would improve search.

The poor search in phpBB is well known across the world, but few people know about using Google's "site" search, which is what I use whenever I am looking for widely used generic terms.
