Real N00b

Post by elusive_elf »

Hi Guys,

trying to set up a new dedicated server for a lan I'm running at the end of the week. I'm running an Ubuntu Linux 10.04 server, without a firewall (it's doing nothing but running this and a couple of other dedicated servers)

I have downloaded both the ubuntu hardy and the generic linux versions of the dedicated server and neither of them will install. The error that's returned is that there are dependency problems that prevent it being installed. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?

Thanks

do you know much about using the terminal to compile the source code if not check this out:

and
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsingTheTerminal
hope this helps I use ubuntu on my other machine and i strongly suggest opensuse for server type use because though ubuntu is capable suse is just way more accessible as an administrator, what desktop are you using?

That was perfect, thanks a lot. Now I have a new problem if you can spare a smige more time.

Oh, currently I have an ubuntu 10.10, a mint 7 and a open-sun 5 system. Just to see how it all works and differs

Is there a way that I can set the server to print out the results of a round to a txt file or something?

Thanks!

I haven't run my own dedicated server yet but I think what you are talking about is a log
http://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php? ... e_Commands <--- this has a number of console commands including server stuff and i don't know if I saw anything about game logs there but this might help alsohttp://wiki.armagetronad.net/index.php?title=Server_Administration

I don’t see anything in the source code for logs but again i haven’t run a dedicated server for this game yet so my knowledge is limited.

Everything of that kind that is loggable is logged into ladderlog.txt in the var directory (./armagetronad-dedicated/var or /var/games/armagetronad-dedicated/var, depending on how you run the server). It's not in a pretty presentation format, but rather meant to be parsed by scripts.
