Forum Spammers
grr. the R forums has gotten about 15 accounts (I suspect all bots) in the last week or so. They've been littering our General Chat section with lots of spam, and it's starting to get quite annoying. Here's one of the more recent threads:

So yeah. Any advice?

Re: Forum Spammers
I generally ban the IP and then delete the account, which at the same time takes all the posts...

Re: Forum Spammers
Same thing happened to the vcl site. We've had random accounts posting pornographic **** all over the shoutbox too. It's ridiculous. Even when we delete and ban the IP, more still come. Try doing the question and answer thing they suggested. It didn't help ours, but hopefully it will yours haha.

Re: Forum Spammers
You could set it up so admins have to verify an account. It can be kind of a pain but will get rid of all of that. That's what ID does on it's forums.

Re: Forum Spammers
If you can access the forum code, I'd recommend writing something custom to block spam. That's what I've done here. What's being used is the only copy in existence and therefore makes it a very small target for spammers. (I'm convinced most of the spam we get is actual people these days...)

Re: Forum Spammers
I also tried that but it takes pretty much time and so I decided to make the captcha harder which fixed the problemscene wrote:You could set it up so admins have to verify an account. It can be kind of a pain but will get rid of all of that. That's what ID does on it's forums.

Great deals, offers and other good ads.
K so we've had a few bots visiting our forums, and it feels bad to ban them etc.
So let's turn it into something positive, yeah? Check out http://r.jumpingness.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3 for what might be the offer you've been looking for.
PS. there's some great poetry in there too.
enjoy
