Messaging online players?

What do you want to see in Armagetron soon? Any new feature ideas? Let's ponder these ground breaking ideas...

Uhh so this is probably impossible or too much work, but is it possible to incorporate a sort of ingame messaging thing that goes over to another server? Say I'm trying to get some players together to have a war or something, I look on a server list and see Oh! -=}ID< so-in-so is online. So I type in /msg -=}ID< Insert-name "get your ass over here!" and it shows up in his/her little talk corner or whatever.

Im terrible at explaining this kind of thing =/

in 0.3.x there is a friends system I believe, don't know what it does. but they could integrate it into that

There is the "mates" system. It can be used to filter servers, showing only those with players you know in them.

That aside, a global messaging system has been discussed, and rejected (at least without major code reworking) several times.

Have your clan members use AIM or MSN or IRC or etc...

If you search the forums I think you will find a couple topics about complex cross-server chat ideas or master-server list lobbies...seems too much when u could just use instant messaging programs :P
