Hurricane Watching
I've found a new hobby, or at least I have seem to developed this into an interest of sorts since Katrina. I've been watching hurricanes. Not watching them in person, but following them in the news. Not sure that counts as a hobby.
Anyway, the hurricane season only just started and we've already had 2 hurricanes, and we currently have a tropical storm going up the eastern seaboard (safely away from land), and a hurricane about to make landfall in Texas. That's Dolly, and if she doesn't become a Cat 5 before hitting, they'll have to rename her to something less-endowed.
So, this thread is for hurricane watchers to talk about anything coming their way, or whatever's interesting. I've mostly been watching the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, but there's the Pacific hurricanes also.
This season, like last season, is predicted to be a record-breaking season (similar to the season that brought us both Katrina and Rita). Unlike last season, it's only July and we've already had two (the second one is still active), so maybe this will really be a big season.

Were they trailing walls behind them?Z-Man wrote:You should watch for Hurricane Red, it pwned Blue quite badly.
That'd be interesting, plot the course of every hurricane for the last however many years with a line after it, and see who the round winner is. Or do it once for every year, and then see who the match winner is...
Ha! Good one... Couldn't have any better timing.Z-Man wrote:You should watch for Hurricane Red, it pwned Blue quite badly.

Aw, I already had an avatar ready before I checked the forums again, but apparently I'm not the first. That's what you get when you're away without internet connection for a few days. At least I had some fun biking. (That is, on a bicycle.)Z-Man wrote:You should watch for Hurricane Red, it pwned Blue quite badly.

Here comes Fay.

Current track is putting her demise in Florida. I guess we'll see about that.

Fay's still a tropical storm, not yet organized enough to become a hurricane.

More interesting at this point is Fay's long-term forecast. Computer models don't agree, but some are suggesting Fay will survive across the peninsula, regroup, and then hit somewhere in the deep south.
